A scenic lake by Zell Am See
Lovely lake on the foothill of Grossglockner mountain range. Zell Am See and Krupen are two picturesque town by the lake. We visited the lake from the publicly accessible "Thumeresbach Park" with free parking. The park offers walking trail, lakeside view, kayak rental and boat tours to explore the lake. Great photo opportunity of the mountains and lakeside towns and villages from the dock.

    Lovely
The lake itself is in a stunning setting surrounded by mountains. There are lots of things to do on the lake, with 3 strandbads and plenty of water activities including paddle boarding and river cruises. The lake itself is very clean and refreshing is you fancied a swim!

As I'm not a ski fan, I walked around the lake. Forget the east side, too many houses have lake frontage so not too many viewing points. The north, south and west side are worth walking along. Did think the best way to experience the lake is to be in it or on it ! I will venture into it before I leave !

Note that you cannot walk right around the lake on a lakefront promenade, as some websites claim. A large section on the Thumersbach side is on a pavement shared with cyclists alongside a busy road. This is because there are many properties on this side with gardens going right down to the lake.

The lake looks lovely. I guess it’s a hive of activity in the summer but this time of the year it’s quiet.
It was clean and tidy and well rendered. Workers were sweeping leaves away and maintaining well. To be fair this is reflective of the whole area.

We walked around the whole lake however we were disappointed.
Why?
Well the Zell side is lovely but as you move either side you end up walking though housing or along a busy road with extremely limited view.
If id have known I would not have bothered!

Wonderful small lake in Austria near Salzburg. Plenty of activities in summertime, many winter sports options. Fine food nearby. Worth the detour. Boas that cross the lake in summertime.

Magnificent mountain view, big spectacular lake surrounded by mountains and ski resorts.
Zell am see, shuttdorf have nice places to stay with view to the lake.
During summer boat trips are possible.

I didn't go all the way to the lake, but I have seen it from the skiing lifts and it looks so pretty. So if I come back in summer periods I would go down to see it.

Swimming, boating, wind surfing, water skiing, pedaloes. There is something for everyone. You can walk around the lake, about 3 hours or bike as there is a cycle track. There is a boat that will take you on a trip around the lake but no stops, commentary in German and English, takes about 40 mins €12 each and refreshments available on board. Free with the Zell Am See summer card. Other boats stop at various points on the lake and are good for getting about if you don't want to do the whole walk around the lake. This is also free with the summer card. There is a light, water, laser and music show three times a week at 10pm for 20 mins, very popular and I would highly recommend. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, a different musical theme on each day. This is on the lake side next to Elizabeth Park.

At the End of Zell Am See there is a shop that rents Kayaks & Bicycles. We were really excited to do both & we spent around half a day just Cycling / Kayaking & lazing in the grass like a picnic around the lake. We then went to see the Laser show in the evening at the esplanade.

My girlfriend and I went biking in the area around Lake Zell. It's a truly gorgeous area with wonderful activities surrounding the lake throughout the year. Lots of info at their website http://en.zellamsee.at/
Also, several Kilometers to the North via bike paths are more stunning mountain ranges, fairy tale villages, farms, glaciers, caves and lakes. With a little research you'll have a magical time in and around this area.
