We used to come here as teenagers with our parents and we loved it. Back then they had a collection of badges you used to be able to get by getting your card stamped at the end of certain trials. It's peaceful and serene and the views are simply breathtaking.

Out of the week we were staying, we put aside 3 days to do lots of walking - we were not disappointed! We climbed up to the top of Filzenkogel, signed the guest book attached to the giant cross that graces the peak. Amazing walk, moderate difficulty (red route), took us 1 and half hours to get up to the... More

There are drinking springs every so often on all the trails so you never have to carry a bunch of heavy water. Some areas have great signage, but other places are lacking. The best option is to buy a map at the Information center. Sights are beautiful - lots of green in this area.

The Berliner Hut is located in a fantastic position with 3,500 metre mountains soaring on all sides. A great place to put one's feet up for an hour with a lunch and a glass of beer. The walk up is also fabulous with rivers, waterfalls and forests on both sides. To get there, take the bus to the Breitlahner Hut... More

Great walking from Mayerhofen, feel we were just able to scratch the surface in one week. Already plan to come back next year as so much more to do.

The staff in the tourist office in Mayrhofen are very helpful, able to print of timetables for local train and buses. Bus timetables are very helpful if you want to go to Zillergrundl or Stillup reservoirs for alpine walking. The bus to the Stillup reservoir leaves from outside the train station, 7 Euros return and brilliant value for the spectacular... More

Plenty of walking trails in and around Mayrhofen. Free maps available at the Tourist Information. Lots of flat walking too, particularly the Zillertal Promenade.

This is really the main reason for coming here. The town is now much more commercialized than in times past, and sadly has lost a lot of the rustic charm along the way as it caters for more of the snowbombing booze fuelled crowd and bling bling shoppers. But, get a few steps out of town and you are in... More
