The no.1 Mondsee sight - and check out the skeletons...(with the greatest of respect)

The basilica is incredibly striking and quite breathtaking inside. Never have I seen so much decoration and gold leaf in a church - quite a sight. I had no idea this church had been used in TSOM, but you can see from the little shop that you enter, that thisis the case. The shop, actually, has a nice balance between... More

Very beautiful place to visit, no matter what your own perspective for religious matters is. It is located in a middle of walk-only boulevard in the middle of Mondsee, There is also a very nice small shop selling all kinds of stuff, mostly with religious motifs of course but other stuff as well. If you're around, you'd be a fool... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our recent visit to Mondsee with our terrific guide Amelie Horing. Amelie did an amazing job describing the basilica and the history, and it's recent and beautiful renovation.

It was a stunning church, other than that, that's about it. It was very beautiful, there was a little souvenir shop inside. The town itself is very small.

We visited Mondsee as part of the Sound of Music tour. Mondsee is a very pretty village on a lake which was quiet in April. The Basilica is famous for the wedding scene in Sound of Music. It was interesting to see and enjoy the serene atmosphere and beauty of the church.

Despite the fact that the trip around the mountains into the town of Mondsee is breathtakingly spectacular the Abbey is just as majestic and well worth the visit. The Abbey is certainly imposing from the outside but the interior is visually overloading. Unfortunately there was a wedding on the day that we went. Mind you that did not preclude tourists... More

The outside of the church is impressive, but the inside is dark with lots of black and gold, very over the top and strictly for diehard Sound of Music fans only.

Quite apart from its fame due to being used as a film location in 1965 (the wedding scene from "The Sound of Music") this wonderful church/abbey is well worth visiting for its sense of majesty. Fortunately the entry is free although a 'donation' of E1 is invited. This is primarily a Catholic church and has some beautiful features to admire.

We had the honor of singing here for a Sunday morning Mass. It is a beautiful cathedral with impressive artwork and Catholic artifacts. The church community was welcoming and appreciative of our group and we were very humbled by the experience. It is a must-see in the area as it is most known as "The Sound of Music wedding church".... More

The Basilica St. Michael was the church used for the wedding scene in the Sound of Music. It was truly magical to walk down the same aisle that Julie Andrews walked down in the movie half a century ago. Though the walked down the aisle seemed to take a long time in the movie, the church actually was pretty small.... More
