Wow! The caliber of the actors was over the top! I laughed so hard during Midnight and Magnolias! A truly wonderful and unique experience. It is a small theater, and we got a chance to visit with some of the other theater-goers before the show. You do need to pay for Custer State Park parking, but it is well worth... More

Have attended 1-2 plays here over the past few years. Plays are well presented with great background work. Comfortable seating with air conditioning as needed. Variety of plays during their season comedy, musical, kids... Like going to matinees since it is on a winding road to get there.

Had a very enjoyable evening while visiting with cousins in the Black Hills. All the seating looked good for view of the stage. The staff was quite attentive in getting everyone seated quickly. The play was quite enjoyable. Second time I have been here and both times were worth the price of admission.

Attending a production here was one of the highlights of our Great American Road Trip out west. High production values and a great performance of Moonlight and Magnolias. We drove the Wildlife Loop and then caught the show; a great day in the Wild West

If I lived in the area, I'd purchase a season pass. Intimate, not a bad seat in the house venue. Quality local talent. If you're not familiar with the location, plan to get there before dark as it's pretty much out in the middle of nowhere. Our GPS kept saying, "You have arrived" and we hadn't! Relied on other drivers... More

Thanks so much for your review of the Black Hills Playhouse. It's true! Don't listen to your GPS as the technology just hasn't caught up yet with our location. We have excellent directions on our website under Plan Your Visit which work much better. We have artists and company members from 22 states this year who come to the Black... More

This is a university sponsored theater company that has been providing excellent theater for the Black Hills area for seventy years. Each summer students and professional actors present excellent theater! It originated in the CCC camp built during the depression and has undergone many transformations. We saw a delightful play and were able to meet with the actors after the... More

WOW! Shall I admit we took a slight detour? BUT we arrived on time! And it was so worth the journey. Scenic trip but we found a much quicker return back to Rapid City. LOL The play was very well done....highly recommend.

Thanks so much for your kind review! It is true that it sometimes takes a journey to arrive--so glad you made it on time. For future reference, we have really detailed directions from many locations on our website under plan your visit. GPS doesn't always work for our location and we don't get good cell phone service, so having a... More

Just saw 'To Kill a Mockingbird'--what an amazing performance!! The Playhouse is a building from the past and adds to the wonder of the performance. This is a wonderful experience that is well worth the price and trip. It is off the beaten path...but the path to the Playhouse is a beautiful adventure in and of itself. A must do!!

Very colorful and amusing plays that are well directed and presented to the crowd. Will be seeing three plays this summer. Also, a great value.

One of the oldest playhouses in the US, Black Hills Playhouse is a magnet for those who enjoy a great play in a rustic playhouse nestled in the Black Hills. The comedy we saw was great and even a big bull "buffalo" greeted us at the entrance road to the playhouse.
