our family of 4 adults did the drive around this lake in early September 2021 there are places to swim, fish, boat ride, or just hang out. on the drive we stopped at the look out and pull off areas to view the lake and forest that was nice to see. not as scenic as sylvan lake but worth the short drive to see it.

It's located in the Custer state park, the lake is quite large, but not so many people, much less than the Sylvan lake, but still some people do water activity there. There is a wooden deck, you can sit facing the lake, and do fishing. There is also picnic area and a playground.

Hydrilla, cane, duck weed and sand mud marsh bottom creek with rocks = HUGE BASS. Definitely fish here and bring your Power Pro braid- there are big pikes here too! I am putting the map as an image and have marked the magic spot. You are welcome ;-) lol.

We just returned from a week of camping at the Custer State Oark Stockade Lake South campground. What a great little site. We had a large site that was near the shower house. The showers were clean, warm, and powerful. The campground host was super friendly and helpful. We loved the location of this campground, as it had easy access to the town of Custer, there was a church a mile away that sold firewood, and we were close to rt. 89 to get to Sylvan Lake. We did t have to meander through the park to get where we needed to go. It was quiet at night. We spent little time at our camper, but having toured most of the park, we really appreciated the location of this campground due to the proximity to town and roadways.

Finding swimming holes when we're on vacation is kind of "my thing," and this lake is up to the task. In short, there is a swimming beach (no lifeguards) that is good for a dip. Nothing special, but it's a body of clean, cool water where you are allowed to swim.

We camped at Stockade North this last time, and enjoyed the easy fishing from the shore and the fishing docks.
Not a real good lake for boating, but fishing is fun!

Loved fishing here! They loved my artificial worms! Beautiful lake, beautiful fish. I'm going to try for trout next time.

This area of the park doesn't seem to get as much attention as other parts, but our family absolutely loved it. We stayed a night in a cabin at the South Stockade campground and we felt like we had found our own little slice of heaven. It has a more remote feel than any of the other campgrounds we checked out in the park. The campground was green and beautiful; the cabin area was bordered by an outcropping of large rocks.

In late afternoon, after we finished getting set up in our cabin, we spent some time on the lake, just enjoying the view and the quiet. We were the only people there! It was the perfect start to our Black Hills adventure.

Stockade Lake has some great hiking trails and picnic areas. The camping areas surrounding the lake are some of the best in the park.

We stayed overnight in a cabin at Stockade South and it was perfect. Very basic cabins with electricity, heat and a/c. There was a pop-up thunderstorm so it was great having a place to get out of the rain. The location was very serene and the lake itself was a beauty!
