The general store and cabins surrounding the lake were closed for the season but there were still people walking the path around the lake. It is a beautiful blue lake surrounded by pine trees. The cabins sit up high on a hill with a wonderful view of the lake. I will be back to rent one of those lake cabins.

Sylvan is our favorite Lake to visit in the Black Hills. Amazing rocks for the kids to climb on and great trails. Last visit we did Little Devils Tower Spur Trail which is a 3.8 mile out and back trail near the lake. This visit we took the Sunday Gulch Trail. The trail heads are at the backside of the... More

Allow time. Bring water. Dress in layers. Bring a camera. Wear good shoes some parts are steep and big steps. But something everyone should do.

This is a nice little lake in Custer State Park. It isn't natural & you can view the dam area in the back of it by the rocks. The parking lot is large & they built an overflow lot due to the massive amounts of people who visit every day. You will be expected to pay the $20 fee before... More

We spent a nice morning paddling on Sylvan Lake. The lake isn't that big, so this is really a great chance for anyone, regardless of canoeing skills, to get out on the lake. All around you, you can see the granite peaks and natural beauty. Walk around Lake Sylvan for a view from different angles.

What a beautiful place! There is a nice and easy trail that takes you all around the lake (takes about 20 minutes). It is spectacular from every view

This was a place well worth visiting. A group of us walked around the lake and took a few small hiking trails. It was so beautiful. Some of the huge rocks around the area reminded us of DisneyWorld. They looked like they were made, but they were natural beauty. This was one of our very favorite places on a 19... More

We drove up to Sylvan Lake to see the lodges and cabins. We were surprised there wasn't a view of the lake. We did not enter the lodge, but saw the cabins which were scattered along the hillside. Each had their own parking space, though they were closer together than I would have expected. It was a nice area in... More

This was such a beautiful area and I wish we were able to spend more time at this lake during our tour. There are huge rocks sticking straight up out of the water at the back of the lake, sort of like the needles on needles highway. People were walking and climbing on the rocks. I saw someone kayaking on... More
