We went here after seeing it was voted the most beautiful lake in South Dakota. Definitely a beautiful lake, well maintained day use areas. We plan on going back as often as we can. Really pretty rock formations all around this area.

We visited in October and it was ~20 degrees. This lake was gorgeous and I wish we had visited during warmer months where we could have truly enjoyed it. Instead, we just stopped for photos.

Enjoyed a beautiful (although chilly) afternoon at the lake as a part of a wedding. What a gorgeous venue!

Beautiful little lake for kayaking. The stone formations in the lake are beautiful. Quiet little place in the park . Good family fun or couples get away .

Came across this scenic area after the Needles Hwy drive was coming to an end. Gorgeous and you will want to take a couple pictures.

We enjoy hiking around the lake. Our grandchildren love climbing on the rocks. We often take longer hikes in trails behind the loop trail for some incredible views. The kids love to cool down in the lake after our hike. Visiting Sylvan Lake is one...More

The trails I know about are hiking/walking types. I don’t know if you can ride bicycle on The Harney Peak Trail as most of it is a wider path until you get to the top. There are several good hikes from Sylvan Lake, ask... More

$20 for a day pass! Not too sure on dogs? I believe you can’t have them on the beach, but I would check the Custer State Park website. 🙂
