The area
Address
Neighborhood: French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.

We were cursed at and nearly assaulted by a shot girl at this bar. At entry it was super loud and we heard door guy tell us to make sure to have a mask on we both put masks on and I walked in and was about 1 ft from bar and pulled mask down to order before I could a shot girl comes walking up and screams “get the &:$;& out of here I saw you Walk in and pull your mask down “ I then stated I was sorry and I was going to order a drink she acted like she was going to shove me and started screaming towards door guy so I walked out and asked him the problem he stated they had to follow the law: this night I visited 5-6 places and all allowed me to remove mask to order or talk and drink. With loud music going all seemed no issue with me doing this otherwise no way to hear. My issue was being cursed and nearly accosted they could have handled very differently

Funky 544 was a good place. Nothing fancy but the music was definitely FUNKY lol. It has a good vibe inside with a small dancing area in front of the stage and a few tables and chairs further back. Also has a slot machine but I didn't use them. It seemed to be a more mature crowd which I liked and everyone seemed to be having a good time.

R&B and classic music

Funky 544 features various bands that play a mixture of 70s, 80s and 90s music. The crowd tends to be slightly more mature than other places on Bourbon Street.

Great live music - drinks too expensive
Apr 2019 • Couples
My wife and I decided to stop here for a beer on a Tuesdays night because of the great live music. We both had an Abita and paid 16 USD in total! Despite the live music was really good, we left after the beer since it felt unreasonably expensive.

Strolling down Bourbon, we decided to stop when we heard the band. The sign said balcony so we thought it would be a good people watching place. The balcony is very narrow, for standing only. Scary so we didn't hang out on the balcony. They were serving 2 for 1 drinks upstairs and the music was very different from the band downstairs. If you are looking for a pit stop, this will work.

You have to stop and here when you are walking around Bourbon Street. Go find a table and buy a drink or two and enjoy the amazing rhythms and blues music. The group we saw were amazing! Please tip them when you are here listening to the music. They are very talented! We will definitely go back when we are in NOLA again.

The band is just absolutely fantastic. They play a lot of old school soul and the horns as well as the guys that sing will keep me coming back for years!
