I did the Port Hudson battlefield tour with guide David Martin. He went beyond what I could have expected from the tour with a combination of outstanding expertise, enthusiasm and stamina on a very hot day. He was simply the best guide I could have wished for to understand what happenend in Port Hudson from May-July 1863. If you have the chance to do a tour with Mr Martin, take it. You will not regret it. - Arjen

Nic is an awesome storyteller and has obviously done his research on the topic. My favorite part was he wasn't just regurgitating history, he was telling life like it was in the Civil War era, along with his theories and spin on it. Nic was extremely passionate about the subject, and also included some unrelated facts along the way.

We spent a week on a riverboat cruise from New Orleans to Memphis. The Battle of Baton Rouge was among the best excursions we took. The guide was so knowledgeable and enthusiastic. He really brought the battle to life. We learned so much from him.

We came to New Orleans, one of our favorite cities, for our first trip back in 3 years. We planned, reserved and paid for the Civil War Walking Tour. NO ONE SHOWED despite receiving an email reminder yesterday.. We left a message on the telephone number on the confirmation email- it was never returned. We waited over 30 minutes before we left Tujaques where we were told to meet. Completely unprofessional and very disappointing.

Dear Sir/Madam, Civil War Tours of New Orleans is a sole owner/operator business. Civil War Tours of New Orleans does not employ any tour guides; again, this is a sole owner/operator business. As a sole owner/operator business, I - the owner/operator - am the tour guide, as well as the owner, etc. Unexpectedly, I came down with a medical condition that prevented me from giving you a guided tour. I did not process your payment. Because you paid through Groupon, your Groupon code will not expire and you can use it again. I did contact you as soon as I knew that I would be unable to conduct a guided tour for you via email, at the time that I canceled your scheduled tour (which you should have also received an email notification for). In my email, I explained that I am a sole owner/operator, and that I would be unable to give you your scheduled tour due to an unforeseen medical condition that I developed. My apologies for not contacting you via phone, but considering the condition that I was in, I was unable to do so, but I did notify you an hour before the tour that I would be unable to give your tour that day, along with canceling your scheduled tour. If you did not receive this cancelation notification, then I am sorry for that. And if you have received my email, knowing that I canceled your tour with notification explaining that a medical condition was preventing me from giving your scheduled tour for that day, then I am sorry that you still felt the need to give a negative review knowing these facts.

It was raining on the day of our tour, so we needed to do the tour in a van, for which we paid extra. On the day of the tour, however, Nick told us that he did not have a vehicle big enough for our group after all, but he still expected us to somehow do the tour. After some back and forth, he agreed to refund the $600 we paid for the tour. Despite numerous requests for the refund, however, he never responded further and just decided to keep the money. Avoid this unethical company.

I am a published Civil War historian so I went in being curious and critical. Nick knows his stuff and is a good storyteller. This tour is certainly worth it for anyone interested in the war who wants something off the beaten path.

I will confess that I do not have a particular passion for learning about the Civil War. However, my husband does, and so I agreed to take this tour to make him happy. To my pleasant surprise, I found myself quite interested in what Nick had to say, because his emphasis was on the political and economic factors that influenced certain aspects and outcomes of the Civil War. If you are a Civil War enthusiast, you will LOVE this tour! Caution: The amount of detail can be overwhelming, so make sure you get enough sleep the night before so you will be able to give Nick your full attention - he has a lot of information to offer!

This was by far the most interesting and engaging tour I had in New Orleans. Nick was incredibly knowledgeable and articulate, and his tour was perfect for both newbies and Civil War aficionados alike. This tour painted the picture of both antebellum and Civil War-era New Orleans, and was a great contextual primer for political, economic, military, and even cocktail history!

My husband and I took the Metairie Cemetery tour with Nick and we were absolutely blown away! We both are very into history and have visited New Orleans quite a few times so we booked this tour because it was something we hadn't done yet. We were both blown away by the amount of connections that New Orleans has to the Civil War! My husband I both like to think we know a bit more than the average about history but there were so many facts pertaining to New Orleans that we had no idea about! Nick was so knowledgeable on the topic, you can definitely tell he has a love for it and we had such a great morning with him exploring the cemetery. When we're back in NOLA we definitely are going to look into taking the walking tour of the French Quarter with him as well! We definitely would suggest this tour to anyone, not only because you'll walk away learning alot but also because it's a great way to get out of the hustle and bustle of the French Quarter while doing it!

We were lucky that Nic gave the three of us a private tour. As something of a Civil War buff myself, I really enjoyed learning about New Orleans’ role in the conflict. I am always happy to learn something new and Nic knows his stuff! I highly recommend this tour to anyone who has an interest in history and/or the story of New Orleans.
