We met our tour guide Nita at the Garden District Bookshop. From there, she took us to the cemetery and explained the reasons for the tombs and meanings behind certain images and everything! We then went around the district looking at notable homes. She explained the very different architectural styles between the Garden District and French Quarter, even though they... More

We took the Garden District/Cemetery tour with one of the knowledgeable guides from Historic Tours New Orleans. It was lovely to get away from the chaos and noise of the French Quarter and enjoy the beautiful gardens and homes of the Garden District. The cemetery portion of the tour was also very interesting and included much of the history of... More

Ina was excellent! She listened to our questions and guided our tour based on what we were interested in learning more about. She was a delight to listen to as an excellent story teller and very well informed. And the cocktails she recommended were definitely some of the best we had on our visit!

We took a tour of the Garden District and Lafayette Cemetery with David, and it was one of the most enjoyable parts of our trip. David was extremely knowledgeable, and was able to tailor the tour based on the interests of those in our group. He didn't rush, and he encouraged questions. He even stayed after with me at the... WOW! What a fun and informative way to see the "boo" side of New Orleans history. The BEST part was our guide Denise Augustine who "flavored" this colorful tour with the insights of a native and funny New Orleans woman. Her engaging story telling made the times and history come alive. This tour is not about scarring you, but more... More

A tour of a cemetery no way I hear you say, but do go along as it was really interesting. It can also be hot with no shade, lots of sun and white stone reflecting the sun so take a brolly! Definitely the best tour in New Orleans. Our guide was a local and it was interesting to hear about... More

The company helped us organize a group tour for a Bachelorette party and were so flexible with their scheduling, as well as offered a group rate. We loved the tour and had a great time in the city. Would highly recommend!

We did the Garden District walking tour and it was wonderful! Frank was a great guide, with a ton of knowledge about the houses and neighborhood. We started in the Lafayette #1 cemetery, and Frank talked us through the details of the burial process and family tombs. He was very informative! Then we walked through the Garden District, with Frank... More

This was well worth the price. Our tour guide, Antonia, was a long-time resident of NOLA, and new all the details of the history of the FQ. Nicely done, Tony!

We had a lovely (and a little creepy!) night walk beginning at the Pirates Alley Café. The evening setting and historic buildings allowed us to totally immerse ourselves in the ambience of the period. Our guide was a historian in his own right and was so knowledgeable and able to answer all the questions we threw at him. Besides the... More

Staying in Algiers

Neighborhood Profile
Algiers
Sitting pretty across the Mississippi River from the rambunctious French Quarter, the Crescent City’s second oldest neighborhood is as historic and as scenic as any – just a lot less showy about it. With its numerous 19th and early 20th century homes and plentiful parks and riverside green space for cycling and walking, subdued and low key Algiers yields the best views of New Orleans and offers a quiet haven from the hustle and bustle in other parts of town. Most of the area’s activity, for visitors anyway, takes place at Algiers Point where the famous Canal Street / Algiers Ferry has been the main attraction since 1827 and is still giving folks one of the best rides in town at very affordable rates. Restaurants, bars and music venues here all but guarantee the utmost of authentic experiences sans any hype or high prices.
