Title says it all, if your tired of bourbon and the bars overflowed by college kids, and you really just want to sit down have a drink and talk to interesting people . S&J's is the place to stop at. Cool atmosphere , good music, and goes til the sun rises.

We threw a 32 bar Pub Crawl in New Orleans for my buddy's Five-O and ended here at 2 AM on a Monday night. I had heard a little about this place hidden out by Tulane, and it was a must see (and drink) on our list of places. I can't say it was what I expected but we certainly... More

As a local, this was my go-to late night bar in my 20 s and 30 s before I grew up, got married, had kids. Some of my best, most serendipitous nola memories occurred here. This bar makes no attempt at being anything other than what it is: A lovable dump, and possibly the very definition of off the beaten... More

Stopped by here after a great dinner, wanting a local low-key bar night. This place was perfect! Illuminated only by a few strands of Christmas lights inside, the bartender was engaging and knew all the local's drinks. Will happily visit again.

We were there early one night and my friend had her purse pick pocketed.when we told the staff about it they said the pickpocket was a friend of. There's and the owner and asked us to leave. This place has it's fair share of old bitter musicians, not much to miss here.

Juan is a fantastic bartender that is personable and makes you feel welcome. It's a bar in a sea of residential houses, so it truly feels like your local neighborhood bar, a part of the community. It's dark and dingy, but that's part of the beauty of it. Good local beer selection, and good liquor selection. Go to this place.... More

If you're looking for a dive bar that is off the beaten path (not on or near Bourbon Street), this is the place for you! It's residential area and dim lighting give off the feeling of hanging out in someone's basement. There were not a lot of patrons when we were there, but we learned that they tend to cone... More

The kind of bar i wish still existed where i live: dogs, smoke, cheap beer, dark and poorly lit. The bartender is fab. Love her.

Found it on a list of the 8 best dive bars in New Orleans. If you like dives, and we do, this is it. Patrons were locals and neighborhood types. Take a photo and drink a beer for $2. We enjoyed it.

Just got back from New Orleans and have a few more things to review, but figured I'd begin with Snake and Jake's. It has quite a history and apparently has garnered some national attention, being featured on one of Anthony Bourdain's TV shows. A friend of mine and his wife went with me after we had checked it out in... More

Staying in Uptown / Carrollton

Neighborhood Profile
Uptown / Carrollton
Very much their own self sufficient unit within the greater metro area, Uptown and Carrollton tone down the urban edge with a friendly attitude and collegiate feel. Home to Tulane and Loyola Universities, all the students living in the area ensure that Uptown and Carrollton stay youthful, cosmopolitan and vibrantly fun. Two of the liveliest thoroughfares for nightlife and socializing (and yes of course more of the city’s outstandingly good food and live music) are Oak Street and Maple Street. For a truly wild time, the expansive acreage of Audubon Park, with its zoo, golf course, and actual patches of swampy wetlands, means peace and quiet are never too far away.
