Compared to the more evocative monikers of some other parts of New Orleans, the downtown’s humdrum title might suggest that this area is all about business and little else. But don’t let the bland name keep you away from the Central Business District. The CBD offers a wide range of fun things to do that would be touted as exceptional in less jubilant corners of the world. Bordered by the French Quarter, the Arts District and Tremé, with the river at its eastern extreme, this hub for sports, gaming, shopping, theatre, family-friendly activities, and amazing regional cuisine makes a smart base wherever your interests lie.

Cozy little bar with a very small room for the band. We caught a Wednesday night Iguanas gig. They are a local treasure. With your back to the bar, it’s like they are playing in your living room. Absolutely fantastic. Eat before you go as they do not serve food and get there early if you want a seat.

We stopped by the bar on our last night in New Orleans and listened to a nice Brazilian group and had 2 drinks. Have stopped during Mardi Gras for a drink to-go but never been in for a quiet drink. Very nice place.

We accidentally stumbled upon this bar but we were so happy that we did! Clarinet quartet were playing Christmas songs, the Saints game was on and lots of food was put out on the bar. The drinks were really good, lots of IPAs! And the staff are so friendly and welcoming! We love it and can’t wait to return.

Get there early if you must have a seat. We went on a Wednesday so we could see The Iguanas. We had an early flight the next day so could not stay for another set, but the band we worth the trip to New Orleans. There was a woman serving BBQ sandwiches with pineapple slaw.... DELICIOUS! This is NOT a fancy club, more of a local dive bar.

I heard about this place from the bartender at my hotel. It was, by far, the coolest bar I visited while in New Orleans (which was six nights of going out). It is super cool, awesome music, awesome people, and the atmosphere is exactly what’s needed in a city like NOLA. Do yourself a favor and make a trip to this bar. You will NOT regret it!

The circle bar is an actual bar with all that goes with it BUT it is a favorite place for local musicians to hang out and play music. The owner is a base player.

The stage is an alcove just about 20 feet from the bar. You are right there with the band.

We have been there 3 times over the last year and each time is better. Really enjoyed the Iguanas and the other musicians who joined them. One, Mike Shea, flew in from California to play.

The crowd dances and enjoys the music.

If you’re a prima Donna about venues then don’t go. If you like a genuine, gritty environment with great music. Check out who’s playing and go see them.

Really fun place! great energy, small, intimate--you are close to the performance. Highly recommend it as an easy place to get to, away from the French Quarter.

Lots of wood, full bar, laughter and stories. I went in for one drink, but stayed for more. A perfect place to catch up with friends--or make new ones.

We popped in after running, they were just opening for the day. Great bar tender. Amazing Old Fashion, good conversation with others sitting at the bar. The owner is very personable and I like his taste in art ;)

It's a hole in a wall bar, downtown not far from the convention center. But it's a hopping place. I recommend getting there early for sets. There's not much seating. A row of stools in front of the bar, but most of those seats don't have a view of the "stage". About a handful or more of the bar stools have good views of the music area. And there area a few tables on the floor. Once the music started the night we were there, most people moved toward the music area (which basically is a small dance floor with a few tables and then the musicians set up) and many of them hit the dance floor. A good intimate place where you'll make friends with your neighbors. No food is served at the bar. So, either eat beforehand or ask the bartender for the menu for a pizza joint that's across the street and delivers decent pies.
