The area
Address
Neighborhood: Lakeview
Lakeview extends inland from the shores of Lake Pontchartrain with much of the area reserved for family-friendly City Park. Home to the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Besthoff Sculpture Garden, Carousel Gardens Amusement Park, and the city’s own lush Botanical Gardens, City Park is a New Orleans gem and the perfect spot for outdoor fun with as much of a mix of culture and/or amusement as you would like. Beyond City Park more great excuses to stay outside beckon, whether on land or by boat. Developed a good deal later than most other New Orleans neighborhoods, Lakeview has a distinctively different look and feel compared to other parts of the city. Fans of mid century modern design and contemporary architecture particularly enjoy leisurely drives around the residential streets of Lake Vista, Park Island and along Lakeshore Drive.

Celebration at the Oaks?? more like nightmare at the Oakes
Dec 2019
Our family went here on the 28th of December and everything started out great. We bought the ride pass and I was thinking $28 bucks each was a bit much (one of us is a 4year old) but it's the holidays so who cares. The lines for the rides were all crazy long but that we could deal with. We got to the train ride and were super stoked to see the lights, sat down on the train and proceeded to wait there for well over a half an hour to 45 minutes do to a broken down train. They kept telling us to be patient and they said we'd get an update in a couple of minutes. If they'd been more up front about the timeline we could have opted to not wait and do something else. I would have been fine with that, but because they didn't I felt they should give us a refund or a voucher to return another night. The ticket booth said they couldn't do it but they could call the manager to help us. Then it was time for us to wait again, finally the manager arrived to tell us that we would not be able to get a refund. We went on one ride and the train in our two hours there, complete waste of time and money. We are done with this place most likely. I will reach out in an email but not bothering to cross my fingers that anything good will come from that but if it does I will update my review.

A very fun and pleasant surprise that my kids really enjoyed!
Jul 2018 • Family
Visited Carousel Gardens on our last trip to NOLA, on recommendation from a friend. Our kids, 5- and 7-, both had a great time. There were cute minature-golf type themed displays and slides to climb on and walk through, many from traditional children's stories. All of this is set among a beautiful park with large oaks dripping spanish moss.

We started off walking across the park to get some iced coffee and beignets, which were delicious. Then we toured Carousel Gardens, then went to the amusement park. It has rides that will cater to all ages, from toddlers to adults, and was another pleasant, family friendly and fairly priced surprise on our trip. If you have pre-teen kids especially, this place is worth a visit. We'll be back on our next NOLA trip! And being able to get alcohol at the beignet place was a huge plus!

Love the Amusement Park - Especially the Brews and Boos events!
Oct 2017 • Friends
This park is an incredible and reasonably priced (you can buy an all day pass for rides for $18 plus the $4 admission) and it’s a very fun way to spend your day with your family.

This review is specifically for their Brews and Boos event (and other similar adult events). For $30, you get unlimited rides, some food is provided and unlimited draft beer.

It’s so much fun! They have various things going on, including costume contests and DJ’ed music. It’s well worth the money. The park is decked out in Halloween decor, adults are in costumes and having a great time and I don’t know of a better way to spend an evening with friends!

Great place for kids and adults!
Jun 2018 • Family
We have annual memberships and we love going to Carousel Gardens! The kids (and I) especially love the Ladybug Roller Coaster. It is a fun filled day for the whole family with plenty of rides and short lines. The food is decent, mostly things you would find at a fair. Overall, I would highly recommend going there if you are in the New Orleans area.

Hidden Gem!
Jun 2018 • Family
This is a great hidden gym in New Orleans if you have younger children. There are about a dozen rides. The park is clean and in general, the staff is friendly. We've been here a number of times over the years and always have a great time.

History!

The Carousel is the actual product from the Tivoli Cirlce. Just before the statue of Robert E. Lee was errected on that spot at LEE CIRCLE, it was known for this Carousel. The actual attraction is within City Park, now. Go to that place in City Park, you'll be glad you did. Children are VERY WELCOME!

Tons of Fun & Reasonably Priced
Sep 2017 • Family
First of all, I'm not sure why the description states that this attraction is closed due to Hurricane Katrina. It is definitely open. Our family just recently spent the day there. It was wonderful. The kids enjoyed walking through the adorable Storyland area. Their favorite part was the amusement rides. For only eighteen dollars a child, we purchased wristbands that allowed them to ride all day. I really liked the train ride that allowed us to get a good view of City Park.

Celebration In the Oaks was Awesome!
Dec 2016 • Family
We've been to Carousel Gardens several times and love this place. We most recently went for Celebration In the Oaks. We bought tickets online and they opened the gates about 15 mins early. The lights are great and my the kids love all the rides. There was only one ride closed (the scrambler) and they have a new slide (which is really fast!). Plenty of concession stands and the restrooms are clean. Highly recommend visiting this place if you haven't before!!!

Making memories
Dec 2015 • Friends
I hadn't been to the Carousel Gardens since I was a little kid, when we came here for Jingle Bells and Beer. I really need to make more of a point to come to this part of the park!

The park itself is large and there are a lot of rides geared mainly towards small kids, tweens and teenagers. Some rides are the train around the park, ladybug rollercoaster, a few rides that spin you until you die, bumper cars, a fun house and, of course, a carousel.

On this particular night we decided to check out the train, the bumper cars, the funhouse and the carousel. My favorites were the train and the carousel- what can it say, I like things a little more low key. The train is really neat because it takes you throughout the entire park and I can see how small kids would really love it. I loved riding the carousel and the whole experience brought back a lot of memories. There's just something magical about doing something like that.

I think that the park is closed for the season, but I will definitely be back once winter is over and the weather is really nice.
