We came to NOLA for our honeymoon and I booked this fishing trip in advance for my husband and I. We had an amazing time. Captain Corey made sure we caught our limit and even went so far as to secure us dinner reservations for later that night. He was so kind and helpful. I highly recommend this experience to anyone looking for a great day on the water. It’s also I nice relaxing break from the craziness of the city and totally worth the trip out to the dock. Can’t wait to come back some day.

This was my first time on a fishing charter, and I was nervous (also a little worried that we would spend most of the day sitting and waiting for fish to bite). Holy moly, was I ever wrong! The hour-long ride out was beautiful and invigorating. We set anchor in the brackish waters of Pointe a la Hache in Breton Sound. Captain Eric Olsen must be a fish whisperer. The waters were absolutely roiling with mullet (which attract the bigger fish). The more experienced fisherfolk among us got right to work poking shrimp onto hooks and casting their lines. Within seconds, someone had a bite! That gave me courage, so I joined in the poking and casting. The first red drum I caught surprised me with its fight and weight. Eric assisted by holding the end of the pole while I reeled. He netted it into the boat and we got to keep it! With the second one, Eric had me wrestle and reel it in all by myself. That made my fishing confidence soar. (Alas, it was a breeder--too big to keep. Honest! I got to release him back into the water. That was a cool experience, too.) Every one of us caught fish--red drum, speckled trout, sheep's head, and flounder--which we kept--as well as catfish (junk fish), rays, an enormous Jack Cravalle and some huge drums, which we released as breeders. On the ride back, the cooler was overflowing with fish, and we were tired but gratified while the wind blew back our hair. Eric filleted all the fish for us and shared his favorite recipes for preparing them. Thanks, Captain Eric! You turned this timid first-timer into a fan.

We had an incredible time fishing with Captain Eric. He knows his stuff and eager to teach you new fishing tricks. In the six hours or so we were out for, we caught over 50 fish. He filleted them after we returned and we had some of the fish cooked at Redfish Grill. The rest we shipped back home. Overall a great experience and a definitely a memory-maker. Thanks Capt. Eric!

Fishing with Capt. Gabe Boudreaux with Salty Dog Charters was definitely the highlight of our vacation. Capt. Gabe asked us what experience we wanted and provided exactly that! He was patient with my wife and daughters. By the end of the trip they were fishing like pros. We caught SO Many fish! We will definitely be requesting Capt. Gabe again. Knowledgeable, funny, patient. We made him an honorary member of our family. I can’t say enough good things to describe our experience.

This was my second time using a fishing charter. I am from New Orleans so whenever I am home, I try to do things I have not done before or enjoy doing. Charter fishing has become an experience that I enjoy. It will be an annual thing. Capt Eric Olsen was amazing. Talk about teaching us to how to fish. He was patient and showed us how to bait our hooks and cast our lines. He understood we were skittish about touching the bait or casting the line so did it for us. Thanks for an amazing experience, Capt Eric. I look forward to you hosting us again next year.
