Our guided canoe and kayak swamp tours are the most rewarding experience into the Louisiana outdoors. We paddle into swamps, along bayous and through local marshes. Loved by residents and travelers we are the most experienced guide service in Louisiana. If a guided trip is not for you, we offer kayak (solo and tandem) and canoe rentals daily! We deliver the boats with all the necessary gear to the launch and give you a little paddle lesson and you will be off on your adventure. Want to rent a few boats for delivery other than Cane Bayou? What a fantastic experience from start to finish! And everyone is still talking about it. We were a family of 10 cousins out for an adventure on the North Shore, and Lauren and her team were responsive and helpful from the moment I reached out to them. Our guides were wonderful and made everybody comfortable, and few of us had much experience previously. I was concerned about the weather because it was a little chilly, but we were protected in the Bayou, and even though it was a little windy at the lake, we were able to get out there for a feel of the expanse of lake Ponchartrain and and see a couple of loons.
We saw such an array of wildlife throughout our tour. Brandon and Matt were very helpful in explaining the ecosystem. Their eyes were so sharp they picked out little alligators we never would have noticed, and even called our attention to an insect egg sac attached to a branch, that we learned was from a praying mantis. They took the time to explain the foliage and how they were useful to the indigenous people of the area, and let us see in touch and taste for ourselves. We never felt rushed, and we had long moments of quiet paddling, where we could appreciate the beauty of Cane Bayou. Lastly, the lunch at the end was delicious!! 10 out of 10 for this experience and this tour company.

We can’t thank Matt enough for a fantastic experience. He was knowledgeable, courteous and extremely helpful. We would highly recommend this activity to anyone wanting to experience the bayou and all it has to offer. If you get Matt as your guide you will be in great hands!

We took the Twilight Tour. It’s Louisiana, it’s April, sometimes it’s gonna rain, and it did. I don’t mind getting a bit wet. The big thing was that Matt and his people were staying ahead of it, and it was clear that they were watching out for our safety. Really terrific folks. The tour was great, we learned a lot about the wetland ecosystems. The Twilight Tour was a different experience. Very highly recommended.

Our time with Canoe and Trail adventures was amazing. Matt was a spectacular guide, very knowledgable about the area, the wildlife, (of which we saw lots) and the plantlife. I expected it to be fun, and was still blown away. We will definitely do this again next time we're in the area.

Matt was our guide and he was fantastic, from our pick up to our drop off. He was very knowledgeable, informative and patient (I was the only one with no experience) he made it feel more like friends going out then a tour guide working. It was an amazing experience (even though we didn't see any gators) and I highly recommend it!

Our tour with Matt was amazing! My husband and I had the best time and I highly suggest taking a tour with Canoe & Trail Adventures. Matt is so friendly it was more like hanging out with a friend than a tour guide. On our trip we saw several alligators, turtles, a few snakes and even 3 eagles! Matt was so informative and answered any questions we had about the swamp and area. We spent almost a week in New Orleans and visit New Orleans on a yearly basis and my husband & I both agree that this has been one of the coolest things we have ever done! Friendly tip: Don't forget the sunscreen!

We did a 3 hour canoe rental for two. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, and the location was great. The equipment was in very good condition. Definitely would recommend to anyone looking to rent kayaks or canoes.

Unusually authentic experience. Matt was passionate about getting us great experience and searching for interesting wildlife. Extremely knowledgable. we got our recommendation from locals who say the locals book with Matt for wilderness stuff. We will do different trip with them when we come back. Highly recommend.

Our extended family were guided by Matt on a wonderful trip through the bayou. His knowledge of the flora and fauna was extensive. Although it was late in the year, we saw birds (including a bird rare to Louisiana), reptiles and mammals. The bayou was beautiful and peaceful. At the end we had a delicious lunch at Nan’s and topped it off with ice cream. Seniors, kids, and in-betweens all considered this the highlight of our fantastic trip to NoLa.

We had a great experience and will definitely be coming back again! The staff was very friendly and help in getting our canoes and sending us on our way. Spent about two hours on the river and stopped at a couple of sandbars that were along the way. Great way for families of any size to spend the day.

Yes they run tours in winter. You can cancel with 24 hour notice if the weather is looking dreadful. Trees may not be as lush but I’m sure it will still be gorgeous. Someone noted in their review “Note in Winter the morning time may not be available as it's not warm enough for animal activity at that time.”

The total weight for our double kayak is 450 lbs. We do have a single kayak that can go up to 260 lbs. If he would need the single kayak just shoot us an email or text with that information and the date you are booked. Have a great day!

What type of shoes are encouraged for the tour? I know they're supposed to get wet, but I'm wondering if sneakers or sandals are suggested.

Really considering booking this tour, but the idea of paddling alongside alligators is a little frightening! Has anyone had experience with the alligators approaching the kayaks or swimming under them? Trying to talk myself into doing this!

Brittany, we paddle in an area where the alligators are still wild and do not associate humans with food so they do not approach the kayaks. Alligators become dangerous when they are taught to approach small boats to receive food. We've been paddling for over 45 years in South Louisiana and have never had an alligator "attack". Our guides are Master Naturalist and will make you feel comfortable with wildlife during the tour.

Do you have any guides who can spot and identify birds? Is this a good habitat for birds in general? What wildlife would we generally see?

Many of our guides are good birders, even the ones that don’t bird routinely are good spotters. If you would like a guide who birds just let us know what date you’re booking for and we’ll try to scheduled a birder guide for that day. For birds this past week we’ve spotted Bald Eagles, Red-Tailed Hawks, a Scissor-tailed Flycatcher!, Least or Yellow Bellied Flycatcher, Great Blue Herons, Great Egrets, White Pelicans soaring!, Pied-Billed Grebes, Common Yellowthroat, Belted Kingfishers, Red-bellied woodpeckers, heard Pileated Woodpeckers, and Tree Swallows.
For other wildlife we’ve been spotting alligators daily and a variety of snakes and turtles on the warm days.
Our paddle route borders a National Wildlife Refuge which is designed for migratory birds, each day is different but if you have your own car while visiting we can point you to other good birding locations to visit before or after the tour.
