We passed by this music club in an early Saturday afternoon, when all other music clubs in Frenchman Street had nothing valuable going on. At the Spotted Cat a pleasant band was playing good Swing, in an informal yet warm and welcoming atmosphere. The bartenders...More

For great music it is important to get off Bourbon Street. Frenchmen has so many alternatives but my favorite is The Spotted Cat. Every band we have seen there is great. I highly recommend this music club.

Came on July 22 for the 10Pm set of Meschiya Lake and the Little Big Horns as advertised on their front window and WWOZ live wire. Got there and the door man was collecting $5 even though the Spotted Cat website says no cover and...More

Over three days went here four times and stayed for hours each time. Jazz, Americana, more jazz of various styles. Find a spot and stay; it's about watching several sets rather than one or two songs. There is never a cover, which is incredible considering...More

Loved this place, great music (the best in New Orleans). Had an absolute ball, It gets packed but you can still watch the band and be served quickly. This is the best place on Frenchman Street to listen to excellent bands and meet people.

The bartender threw us out at 4 pm cause there was teenagers under 21 with adults (and just wanted a Coke). He mocked my father thinking he doesn't speak english. I don't recommend this bar!

Well, STATE LAW prohibits minors in an alcohol outlet! I don't understand the " MOCKING" comment. Could you tell me more? Douglas

Really looked forward to having a drink while listening to live music. At least I got half of that. After waiting at the bar (busy but not overwhelmingly so, I've definitely been served at crazier places) for 15 minutes without so much as an "I'll...More

I have visited here probably 20 times over the years, and it is still my all-time favorite venue for live music in NOLA. No cover charge, friendly servers, and outstanding music all day/night long. Over the years, the secret has obviously gotten out...on the most...More

This club has a tiny stage and very limited sight lines to see the musicians. Purchases are cash only with a one drink minimum per set, no cover. The outstanding inclusion of a live webcam on their web site allows you to see who is...More

Faubourg Marigny & Bywater
Nestled between the French Quarter and the Ninth Ward,
the Faubourg Marigny & Bywater environs are largely
residential. Of course, folks around here love to go
out and have a good time as much as they do anywhere
in NOLA. And if out-of-towners want to join in the
festivities, well then so much the better! Home to
some of the most revered live music venues in New
Orleans, an eclectic gaggle of gourmand dining

Check the local the back pages of the 'what's on' magazine The Beat for shows and artists. No cover but you will be expected to buy a drink at the bar. Small plastic cup of special drink mix is $9.
