About
Balcony Music Club (or "BMC") is conveniently located on the corner of Esplanade and Decatur. Although this music venue is in the French Quarter, and it isn't technically on Frenchmen Street (one block away), it's definitely a part of the Frenchmen culture. You will find a wide range of music at BMC! Brass, jazz, blues, folk, funk, rock, and country. One great thing about BMC is that its music lineup often starts much earlier than the rest of Frenchmen St, so you can get started closer to midday and happy hour, especially on weekends. And since there's usually no cover, you can pop in for a few songs, take a stroll, and come back at your leisure. BMC, also affectionately known as the Center Of The Universe, showcases live bands seven nights a week. Since the venue is larger than most in the area, it's usually not as cramped, but on busy nights, you likely will not find seating. In which case you can relax at their indoor/outdoor patio bar, stand, or dance the night away. Either way, the staff is friendly, drink prices are reasonable, the entertainment is always on point and you will not be disappointed.

The area
Address
Neighborhood: French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.

My husband and I stumbled across gem on our last night in New Orleans. Soul Express was playing. It was the best music we heard the whole trip! Cocktails were good too and atmosphere was fun. This is a must when we return!

Great music

Stopped in here on a rainy night and found the Kim Turk band tearing up the stage. The lead is an amazing vocalist with a shocking range and beautiful tone. She's backed up with a soulful trio that create a rich sound that fills the room.

BMC Balcony Music Club and the Spotted Cat were our favs (and of course Preservation Music Hall). BMC had women leading the groups and they were INCREDIBLE. Our adult teen wanted to live there, the music was so good.

Good music club with informal atmosphere.
It was a shame that there was a lot of cover on the 2 nights we came.

Walking up to Frenchmen Street from the streetcar on Veteran's Day evening, we heard some great sounds coming from the BMC so wandered over. Lil Red & Big Bad were playing so in we went - no cover charge, good drink prices, selection of draft beers & cocktails, great service and the sounds . . . . Oh Man ! You just gotta go to this place on a Monday. Lil Red on vocals (and cowbell !) & Kevin on bass were great but Richard on sax - hell that cat can play 🤜. This is why I came on holiday from
London - live music at its impromptu best. Thanks guys for a special evening !

Walked in as was no cover and listen to a set of great music. I thought still on Frenchman, as it's a small street and then angles towards river. Music was great, nice to sit and relax after walking all over, around and off of Bourbon Street.
