A group of 6 friends took Bob's Esplanade tour on Saturday morning of my husband's 60th birthday celebration weekend. Bob was awesome. He was casual, funny, informative. He know a ton of facts and history of NOLA. What a great way to spend a beautiful morning. Also a good way to work off at least a few of the calories you will consume with the food and drink while on your trip. It was not a difficult ride at all. If you are going to bike while in NOLA, choose Bob. You will love him.

I contacted Bob about a walking tour of the French Quarter that would please our 80 year olds in our group as well as kids aged 11. Bob knows his history and added ghost stories to the mix to keep the kids enthralled. His energy and love for New Orleans is infectious. We all loved the tour and are eager to return for one of his bike tours next time.

I read a LOT of bicycle tour reviews here on tripadvisor before deciding to book my tour with Big Easy Bike Tours. The main reason I chose Big Easy Bike Tours over another bike tour company (besides all the 5 star reviews) was that I noticed that everyone who booked a tour with Big Easy ended up with Bob as their tour guide (I later learned he is the owner & sole employee of the company), versus reviews of other companies invariably mentioned the names of many different tour guides. I'm sure every tour company has some very good guides...but they probably a few who aren't so good, too. Plus more than a few of them are probably recent college graduates who have only been living in the city for a few years. Bob, however, was born in Louisiana, has lived in New Orleans for 25+ years, AND he has his own radio show on WWOZ, the world famous "Jazz & Heritage" radio station located in New Orleans. He really knows the city inside & out, knows tons of local & touring musicians, and is a great source of information in terms of the best and most affordable local restaurants to eat at, which bars & clubs to go to on which night, etc.. Eating good food & listening to live music are the two primary concerns I center my trips to NOLA around, and Bob was a wealth of information about both. In fact throughout the rest of the week he would send me texts regarding which band he thought I'd enjoy seeing most! That's customer service above and beyond what I'd expect from anyone!! So I did the 3 hour Esplanade tour, but in retrospect I wish I had booked the 5 hour tour. Since New Orleans is so flat, the bike ride was super-easy--basically we just biked through the city at a relaxed pace while Bob kept up a continual monolog. He is a wealth of information about everything & anything New Orleans-related, and I learned a lot about the history of the city, the various architectural-styles, the Mardi Gra Indians, the city before-and-after Katrina, and on and on and on. Suffice it to say that I had a GREAT tour! My only regret is that A) I didn't book his longer 5 hour tour and B) I didn't book the tour at the beginning of my vacation instead of closer to the end. Great tour, great guide, super-informative, highest possible recommendation!!

Bob was outstanding! Extremely knowledgable and gave us some excellent historical background and cool facts from a local. We did the 8-11 a.m. (3 hour) narrated tour. It was hot in July - but still worth doing, it's not too bad when you start that early in the morning. We covered a lot of ground, saw way more of the city than we would have on our own, and Bob catered the content to what we were interested in learning about and seeing. HIGHLY recommend, this felt like a personal tour! Bob makes it really personalized, fun and easy to listen to. Thank you Bob!

So from what I gather Big Easy is a one man operation; this is not a cooperate tour company. Bob was very quick to respond to emails as I solidified and filled my itinerary. My tour ended up being just me and Bob, he could have canceled it due to low enrollment, but he didn't. I have to say that the ride with Bob was the highlight of my very brief NOLA experience. We did a long ride, maybe 5-6 hours. Bob filled in a great narrative of the culture, history, the architecture, and Katrina events. Very enlightening and exactly the experience I was looking for. If you prefer an off the beaten track experience, no tourist hype, just some guy's authentic representation of his environment and the history of NOLA, than this is the tour for you. Thanks Bob, I really appreciated the ride. When you come to Portland, lets do a ride. joe
