Bike through the little seen parts of New Orleans with us and take a ride...

Bike through the little seen parts of New Orleans with us and take a ride through the rebirth of a historical neighborhood. See not only the damage from Hurrican Katrina, but the uplifting rebuilding; and more importantly, why the neighborhood needed to survive. We'll visit the levee, learn about the musical culture, and meet Ronald Lewis, local historian and curator of the House of Dance and Feathers. Definitely an unforgettable day.

Here's how Ronald Lewis describes the origins of his museum, which we visited today: "I was working on my Mardi Gras Indian costumes for the Choctaw Hunters, a Mardi Gras tribe I helped start in the Lower Ninth Ward. While I was working on the suits, I had feathers and memorabilia all over the house. I came home one day... More

What a lovely bike ride and every house a different colour. Very friendly. Comfy bikes. Very informative about the rebirth of a spirited neighbourhood after the Katrina devastation.

When coming to New Orleans, I really wanted to see areas that Katrina hit hard. I wanted to talk to the locals and hear their experiences first hand, of that storm and the devastation they experienced and witnessed themselves. I was hungry to learn everything I could about it. This tour offered me that opportunity. The guides were wonderful and... More

A visit to NOLA would not be complete without a Ninth Ward Rebirth Bike Tour with the one and only Nick. Nick was a memorable tour guide for many reasons very funny and very knowledgeable comes to mind. Even if you are here for a big weekend on Bourbon street this tour is fantastic to take some time out in... More

We recently visited New Orleans and took the 9th Ward Bike Tour with Nick who is an awesome tour guide. There is so much more to New Orleans than Bourbon Street. This tour was 4 hours in length, we biked all through the 9th ward, stopping at important historical locations, taking pictures and talking to locals. Nick was very knowledgeable,... More

Absolutely the best experience we had on our recent trip to NOLA. Nick was our guide. Not only did he have a terrific sense of humor but the information he shared was so very informative. His passion for the community that he has chosen to call home was truly moving. Not only was the tour about the "Lower Ninth Ward"... More

Very informative and intelligent tour of the history of New Orleans and more specifically the Ninth Ward. As others stated the Ninth Ward has its own amazing history that goes beyond Katrina. It is inspiring to see the come back of the area despite the challenges and misperceptions in the media. Nick was a great guide with great information and... More

My husband and I spent a long weekend in New Orleans to celebrate his milestone birthday! We are at a point in our lives where we wanted more than a hangover for our memories and decided to incorporate some educational experiences in to our food and drink extravaganza in the Big Easy. Our tour guide Nick really delivered with his... More

Awesome, positive, neighbourhood tour, and an important reminder that the Ninth Ward was not, is not and will not be defined by Katrina. We had an awesome guide in Nick; knowledgeable, funny and, importantly, lives locally. Overall a well paced tour with lots of stops, the best po' boy in town, and great local info. We were also given lots... More

This is the most informative, intelligent, engaging, inclusive, and attentive bike tour you could wish for. Nick was an outstanding tour guide - so knowledgeable about the area and its history, and full of passion for the regeneration taking place here. Wipes the floor with other U.S. bike tours: highly recommended.

Staying in Faubourg Marigny & Bywater

Neighborhood Profile
Faubourg Marigny & Bywater
Nestled between the French Quarter and the Ninth Ward, the Faubourg Marigny & Bywater environs are largely residential. Of course, folks around here love to go out and have a good time as much as they do anywhere in NOLA. And if out-of-towners want to join in the festivities, well then so much the better! Home to some of the most revered live music venues in New Orleans, an eclectic gaggle of gourmand dining destinations, and a come-as-you-are vibe that’s as infectious as it is alluring, this is real deal New Orleans oozing with southern hospitality and the promise of a most epic night out. For endless opportunities to boogie, to admire row upon row of lovingly restored homes, and to escape the fray of the more touristic parts of town (but still live it up in grand style) head to Faubourg Marigny & Bywater.
