We were picked up at our hotel in a nice SUV on time by a really friendly and knowledgeable guide named Andrew. First thing he let us know is that we can customize the tour and go wherever we like, which was awesome because I had just learned about Marigny and Bywater being the place to go if you want to see shotgun houses and I was dying to see it. We also went through The Garden District and saw the highlights of its architecture and cemeteries, too.
Andrew took us to Marigny and for the whole ride he narrated interesting tidbits and facts about the culture and history of New Orleans. He was also very conversational, too. The trip was great.
We stopped at St. Roch’s Market and Andrew let me know that NOLA culture doesn’t frown on a breakfast of a Bloody Mary and oysters and this made me so happy because it was delightful! Kurt Vonnegut says the Breakfast of Champions is a dry martini and a cigarette but I think he’d approve of the NOLA breakfast, too.
We went to the plantation after this, for that is the tour we booked, and we were a little early for the next guide so we went up on the shores of the Mississippi to take a look and Andrew told us more about history, culture, Katrina, the port of Mew Orleans and lots of cool stuff.
After the plantation tour was done we walked around the plantation and then Andrew dropped us off exactly where we asked.
This was a great tour, so easy and so fun. I’d highly recommend Michaela’s Private Tours.
