The area
Address
Neighborhood: French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.

Packed full of charm, camp, passion, and fun, this little shop connected to the Vampire Cafe down on the corner is a consummate delight. The staff was garbed appropriately, and their demeanor (friendly, but withdrawn) was on point. Some of the items were surprisingly expensive, but you'll absolutely find something you want - and maybe even need. I was even able to learn more about the history of the city, other attractions, and share a few smiles, which is always a good use of time and energy.

I know this is what some people are looking for so I'm not giving a "bad" review, but for the others, I just thought you should know. I could feel a very thick, negative energy in this place that I have never felt in the French Quarter. Please be careful exposing yourself to places like this as it can get attached to you. I immediately went to the vampire cafe around the block and I couldn't feel anything comparable there so I'm pretty sure it wasn't just me... Anyways, be careful with spiritual energy. Also, many of the witchcraft shops I went to didn't have this feeling. They may have cast spells on the space or something.

This is a really nice (air conditioned) shop with lots of locally handmade gifts with a vampire/goth theme. The shop keeper is very friendly and had great recommendations on the products they carry. I brought my kids (ages 10 and 11) here and they enjoyed taking a photo in the wooden coffin inside the shop and smelling all the candles and checking out the wares. The shop keeper joked around with my little boy about real vampires coming to the shop and he got a kick out of that! We bought some really nice organic fair trade tea, which I was told is also served at the Vampyre Cafe next door. We'll definitely have to try the cafe next time we're in town.

Cute shop that doesn’t feel like a tourist trap, handmade items and lots of books and tarot decks. Was able to buy gifts to bring home for a very reasonable price. Steven, the shop assistant, was great at answering questions and took a lot of time wrapping my items so they would survive the trip home. My favorite shop in the Quarter, can’t wait to return!

There is no not going to this shop when we're in New Orleans. I've been buying (mostly gifts) there for years and a lot of it is locally handmade. Never had a bad experience there and the mask I bought this year (March 2022) has gotten me so many compliments--it's just black with white line and fangs but it says so much. Talking to the staff can get you interesting information, like the vampire-styled bar and how to see/avoid the film crew shooting that night. Didn't have a bite at the cafe next door so maybe next time.

This is a must see stop on your New Orleans journey. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and courteous. The selection of items is unique and highlights the talents of local artists, writers, and jewelers. I make sure to stop in each time I visit the city and when I need that little bit of NOLA energy when I am not in town, their commitment to customer service and satisfaction extends to their online store and shipping services. If you are looking to have custom made fangs to complete a costume or release your own inner vampire, you can’t go wrong with Dark Awakenings fangs. Maven Lore is a consummate professional fangsmith who will create the finest set of custom fit fangs to cater to your needs. Five stars for this boutique!

I sit here in Los Angeles, so weary from the forced lockdown, required facemarks & sheer misery to find my mood broken by this terrific store website! In browsing through their array of fun & funky vampire related products, I can always find something great. Going to the market turns lots of heads when I'm wearing my little coffin backpack purchased here and makes me feel like the belle of the ball (or pandemic in this case!). They even have a monthly subscription where you can pick from affordable price points and they'll send you a box of vampire goodies to enjoy. One day I plan on making the trek back to New Orleans and to my favorite store, but for now, it's a" thirst quenching" online experience!

Online Shopping review only, But will definitely visit if I get to New Orleans ! I came across Boutique du Vampyre on Facebook and was very excited to order one of the Vampyre boxes, they come in different pricing ranges which is great, I opted for the $85.00 dollar box and I could not wait to get it! My USPS unfortunately left my box "outside" and I believe someone walked away with it.... I spoke with the owner about it and she gracefully sent me out another box! This was such a surprise because it was Not the shop's fault but the fault of the USPS, my conversations with the owner were so nice that it felt like I was talking with an old friend. I can't even begin to tell you how much I loved my box which was carefully and beautifully wrapped in fun gothic wrap! I'm not going to spill What s inside my box, because it's the surprise of it all but what I will say is it was worth more than the $85.00 dollars I paid, it was filled with many different items, all of them I loved...if you like dark, gothic, vampire things than this is the place and surprise box for you! I can't wait to order my next one and see what's in store! And, with each box you order there will be different items than the last box...if I find myself in New Orleans my first stop will be to visit the store in person and meet with the owner, "Marita" Thank you Marita! 💜

This shop is truly a hidden gem. Much more authentic than the other standard tourist shops. Many of the items are handmade by local artists. The people who work here are so knowledgeable about this town and the rich history. As soon as you step in the door you can feel the difference. If you are looking for a unique experience with unique local finds to take home then this place is a must see!

I was gifted the first edition, collector's book for my birthday this year. I was blown away by the awesome packaging...Bellocq photographs, wooden "suitcase", map of Storyville, and an autographed copy of the book.

When an author can inspire you to want to know more about something you never knew about...that's when you know the magic happens! And, Marita Crandle did just that with her newest historical book on New Orleans most famous madam, Josie Arlington.

Crandle details "the life and times" of Josie Arlington, the (in)famous Storyville, and assorted New Orleans history, and finally the soul-crushing end of Josie Arlington. Crandle has revived Arlington's legacy, and helps to inspire others, such as myself, into learning more about our local culture here in New Orleans that has been washed away by time, tears, and temperaments.

The most poetic part about this entire book, is how the author has chosen to give the proceeds of her books towards something so much larger than all of us. So pick up your copy and find out about one of the most interesting ladies I have ever read about, and where these proceeds are going to!
