My husband and I took a tour through the French Quarter with Lucky Bean Tours and enjoyed it so much that we booked a tour with them of the Garden District for a couple of days later. Our tour guide, Loretta, was so fun and informative! It was her first time back after nine months (due to Covid). She was nervous and apologetic that she might forget some dates, but she promised to follow up with us if she did. It didn’t matter though, because she was able to recall all the information even after a long break. She clearly loves her city and is passionate about sharing its stories with others. She was a fun storyteller and made the history of the city fun for us. We asked a lot of questions (not because she was unclear about anything, but because we always ask our tour guides lots of random questions), and she answered them all for us and was excited to have us ask them! She even took pictures of us in front of Jackson Square, which was great because it’s nice to have a picture of us together that’s not a selfie!
One of the coolest things Loretta did was to send us an email afterward with a list of all the things we covered so we could look up more info on our own if we wanted. We referred to it many times during our trip when we couldn’t remember a name or place. She also included a list of some of her favorite restaurants and other places of interest in the city. I don’t think all the guides do that; I got the feeling it’s uniquely a Loretta thing. It was a wonderful surprise and greatly appreciated! I’ve never received an email like that from any other tour guides. Very cool.
Also, we really liked the smaller size of the tour, which I believe is by design. There were only six of us on the tour which made it much easier to hear her and ask questions. We went on a haunted New Orleans tour with another company the following night (Lucky Bean doesn’t do a haunted tour) and did not enjoy it as much because it was a larger group and harder to hear and interact. By all means if you enjoy historical tours, go with Lucky Bean when you’re in New Orleans! Thanks, Loretta, for bringing the history of New Orleans to life for us!
