I love a friendly bar.

My wife and I went on a Saturday night with our son to meet some of his friends. This is a dive bar in a good way. It was 10PM (early) and the place was mostly empty. He played... read more

Corner Bar on Magazine St. Very cool old school New Orleans bar vibe. Free Oysters at seven pm. Pool tables.

My wife and I went on a Saturday night with our son to meet some of his friends. This is a dive bar in a good way. It was 10PM (early) and the place was mostly empty. He played pool with his friends in the front room. The bartender in the back room was friendly and welcoming to us. The... More

Stopped in to grab a beer and a sandwich, since the sign outside said "beer and sandwiches." They don't serve sandwiches, but had plenty of beer. The bartender was great, checking in on us regularly. Several others stopped in asking about sandwiches, which was kind of funny. Lee Harvey Oswald once went there and incidentally, I sat at the same... More

Every Friday @ 7pm they offer free oysters and piano bar. Their Happy Hour must be really happy, it runs from 11am until 8pm. Games, pool and gambling in a large high ceiling room. Nice beer selection.

Dive bar. More of a locals place than a tourist place. went there on a Friday night and there was free oysters from 7pm until they were gone and also live music with no cover. This place is great if you are in the area and not looking for touristy bourbon street type bars.

Very slow service even though they weren't that busy. Bartenders were clueless and my drink was very weak.

The place I found for lunch was closed on Sunday, so I started walking up the road to find something else, when I located a bar called: Le Bon Temps Roule. I discovered they were renovating their kitchen but told me that I can get food from Rainbow’s corner store one block south, and bring it back if I'd like.... More

Couldn't have found a better dive bar - all with uneven floorboards, smoke clouds, a fake alligator and cheap drinks - and above all - the Soul Rebels! The sound that was generated in those 4 walls were something truly out of this world. I wish we had something similar to that in the Southern Hemisphere, but it truly is... More

We saw the Soul Rebels - great fun band! I was worried about getting there too early (we went right after dinner). Got there about 9:45pm - the front room (main bar) had a few folks there. Good place for beers/cocktails/ pool. We went to the back room where the band would play - no one in there. Around 10:30... More

Soul Rebels was hype! $10 cover...grungy place and well suited for environment and the music makes up for it all. My friend saw a cockroach in the men's washroom but again the music makes up for it ahahahah

Staying in Uptown / Carrollton

Neighborhood Profile
Uptown / Carrollton
Very much their own self sufficient unit within the greater metro area, Uptown and Carrollton tone down the urban edge with a friendly attitude and collegiate feel. Home to Tulane and Loyola Universities, all the students living in the area ensure that Uptown and Carrollton stay youthful, cosmopolitan and vibrantly fun. Two of the liveliest thoroughfares for nightlife and socializing (and yes of course more of the city’s outstandingly good food and live music) are Oak Street and Maple Street. For a truly wild time, the expansive acreage of Audubon Park, with its zoo, golf course, and actual patches of swampy wetlands, means peace and quiet are never too far away.
