There are nice marble decorations. Choose a free guided tour to access rooms that are closed to the general public. Ask in advance about accessibility of the dome walkway.

The building is very impressive but the high light of our trip was the two guides in the museum part on the top floor. They were very knowledgeable, very approachable and very funny. The building is well worth visiting.

I just don't think you can miss this stop while in Madison. Take a such or as little time you need for this free attraction. The legislators were in DC so we were able to go to the floor and check things out. Great photo...More

The State Capital building is a true gem in Wisconsin and I would put it as one of the most beautiful state capital buildings in the US. The skill and attention to detail throughout the inside and outside is amazing. This is truly a can't...More

Went on a tour and saw many of the rooms there. It was fun to see where people sit and many of the different courtrooms!

Been going here since I was a kid. Still thrills me with its beauty and majesty. Standing in the middle of the rotunda and looking up is a favorite thing to do. Remember your entrance if you want to be sure to leave the same...More

We walked around and took pictures for at least an hour. There is so much to look at and see; and visitors seem to be allowed free range to look around. Lots of nice architecture to see and photograph.

Are you able to bring a backpack inside the capitol building? What about a DSLR camera?

When I went into the capitol, they did not search me, and I took a camera. So I believe that you may be able to bring them in.

There was very little damage done to the capitol, if any, by the protesters. I was there and witnessed the over 100,000 people who respected that building to the utmost degree. The media was completely incorrect in its reporting of damage done. Oh yes, the lawn was trashed. That's what happens when so many people are fighting for their rights.

The rotunda has been open for several days now. No more "Do Not Enter" tape, no barriers. Just walk right in and take in the unexpected beauty of this amazing building.
