I am not an Art enthusiast and I will declare I honestly really do not know the subject. Nevertheless, I have found it interesting just to wander around and look at the various pieces of work, even without a full appreciation or understanding of it. Some works set me off thinking what is this about? Why is it supposed to... More

Other art museums might blow you away with greatest hits paintings. This one has few. But it is nevertheless a great collection, even for the connaisseur. You will find great stuff to contemplate, and it is free entrance to all. The galleries are often fairly empty for reasons that are hard to understand. But that means you'll have quiet contemplation... More

The Chazen has beautifully designed display space and covers a broad spectrum of art. I was attending a seminar on the UW campus and stopped in for just an hour during lunch. I was delighted to find that it was free and found a number of gems as I quickly perused it. One delightful find was a Salvador Dali painting... More

Lots of modern art. Very interesting. Lots of art too, it has 3 floors I think. Would return to look at more of their exhibits.

There are some exceptional pieces on display. Unfortunately having grown up with the Art Institute and other museums of Chicago, the majority of the art just lacked. I've seen better work from students at Columbia College.

Travelling through the northern tier, we scheduled a day in Madison and chose the Chazen as a place to visit for a few hours. Had I only known--if you have the time, stay in Madison for two weeks and do an hour in this museum every day so that you don't over-saturate on the wonderful collection. It's sited in two... More

We were pleasantly surprised to find a free art museum of quality in Madison. We spent most of our time with the impressive exhibit of Japanese prints, but the museum also has a wide selection of art from all eras worth seeing.

This is a great place to spend an afternoon. I've been there a couple of times and for a free museum, it's really wonderful. A variety of time periods and pieces. Check out their website to see the current exhibitions and to plan your visit. Be prepared to leave your coats and bags in a locker before you enjoy the... More

we arrive there already over 4pm, but it closes at 5pm on Sat, so need to rush to walk and don't have enough time to see both of the buildings, there are a number of art displays in the 3rd floor, why not much to see in 2nd and 1st floor, and there is a special topic of art displayed... More

This is an excellent small art museum! I enjoyed the variety of the collections and the atmosphere. It has grown so much since I was there last.
