I typically do not frequent "art" museums, but as the Chazen is free and I had an hour to kill, I ventured in. The temporary exhibit on the first floor was awe-inspiring. The permanent collection had some great pieces and some not so great, but two steps away is another great piece. Very peaceful visit, I only ran into one... More

We spent a lovely Saturday afternoon at the Chazen Museum of Art in Madison, WI. The musemu is free and the colleciton is extensive. I've spent a fair amount of time in art museums but I was blown away by the diversity of art, the number of galleries and the quality of the collection. If you're an art lover and... More

I casually strolled in to Chazen expecting a bunch of student art, but was blown away by what I found instead. Chazen has a beautiful collection of breathtaking permanent exhibits, and their current temporary print exhibit knocked my socks off. Lautrec posters and Hokusai prints all to myself! The curators here are clearly at the top of their trade and... More

Surprising number of galleries within the museum showcasing many art forms; maybe too many? Was surprised at the "darkness" of much of the subject matter. Was difficult to be uplifted after a 2 hour visit.

I have lived in Madison the last 20 years and just first went here in November. I should have been here quarterly since it opened. This museum is free and the art is exceptional. They have featured artists for gallery features and the staff is more than helpful when perusing.

This large museum located on the UW-Madison campus has a collection that comprises over 20,000 artworks. I particularly enjoyed the European and American twentieth-century paintings and modernist sculpture. The museum is free and is located in two connected buildings. There are also temporary exhibitions in addition to the permanent collection.

This compares favorably with any museum I've ever visited. The displays are so well exhibited, and walking thru all of them, thoroughly observing would take more than a day.

Not a large museum on UW Madison campus but worth a visit. Free admission and a great collection. Variety of artists, many well known and some not as prominent in name but talented in art. Take the time to wander through.

The museum is small but has a rich, diverse, very interesting collection beautifully displayed. And if you can, definitely go watch Manubu Ikeda, the Japanese visiting artist in residence, at work....his paintings are incredible!
