We had a great time on the golf course, interesting holes but very noisy because the golf is in the city, local people are on the course and do not know the danger of a golf ball.
Caddy are good for looking after your missing ball but they are sometimes running in front.
Caddy fee is 750SLR but at the end of the course he is asking himself for an extra tip of 1000SLR for each caddy !!!
Tip is more than the caddy fee , what is not normal. A tip is always what the player should want to give and can never be obliged or fixed or mandatory by the caddy!!👎🏽
i'm not complaining about the money but it's about the way how they tell you that after the game.
Please inform better the players before !!!

I have played golf on a number of courses throughout the world and this was different to any others I have played. The course is located in the centre of the town and standing over tee shots with members of the public looking, tuk tuk vehicles beeping, and other general noises associated with town life was, to say the least, unnerving. On some holes, the public were walking across the fairways and my caddy was often shouting out a warning. For some reason, shouting "fore" didn't register. On a negative note, the greens and bunkers weren't great, but irrespective, I throughly enjoyed the experience. What's more, £45 for green fee, club hire and caddy is good value.

Old style colonial course right in the middle of town. An unusual layout with plenty of obstacles not least the town's people wandering around. Caddies are inexpensive and helpful. Delightful old clubhouse with wood panelling and old photos. The best interesting cheese toastie ever!!!

I went with my parents who are visiting from China on the morning of 2 July 2018. My dad who doesn't speak English is a big golf fan so we stopped by this morning so he can play 10 holes. Since my dad doesn't speak English and I do not know how much people tend to tip there, I gave him 700 Rupees cash before the game so he can give a tip.

When they finished the 10th hole, I went up and wanted to take a photo of my dad with the caddy. Just something for him to remember this experience by. I asked the caddy whether it would be ok to have a photo taken together, the response I got was: "everyone would tip 1000 Rupees". Then waited there for me to get more cash. I walked back to my bags and got some US dollars, while walking back to the caddy, slipped and fell on the patio.

We would very much appreciate if the caddies had better manners rather than forcing people to get cash. I would also appreciate if the staff dried the patio so it would not be so slippery. The course seems historic and Unionpay card signs were everywhere to take money from Chinese tourists. If only more thought could be given to the service to the crowd that you are trying to get money from, it would probably make it a much better experience for the visitors.

For example, in China, caddy fees and tips to caddy are combined as one payment. We already paid a separate caddy fee at the beginning when we arrived. This made us think the tip would be optional, at least an optional amount depending on experience. No where was it made clear to us that there is an expected tip from the caddy, and what that amount would be. We would appreciate if that is made clear to us at the beginning of our visit.

We stayed at Jetwings and visited the golf course- was taken around by a very friendly waiter - great history/ pics /rooms .Having seen the course -I decided to play 10 holes ,with a caddy , reasonable clubs, hired , the total for caddy , round , clubs, tees and5 balls about 7500. Course very interesting -survived a heavy rain storm , bunkers a bit solid , greens a bit slow but a great caddy and enjoyed every minute - stayed for lunch ....a must visit in the area

This place is just amazing. It drives you back in times and you fill like in the old british times. Try the local rum and Nuwara Eliya Green Salad.
Play it early in the morning, and relax at the terrace in the afternoon. Amazing.

It's a long way with the car (not in km, but the traffic is terrible) and I will only be back if they drive me there with a helicopter. Sri Lanka really needs to do something for its traffic. Its a pity to not travel to this place because the road problems.

We arrived at the golf club, not intending to play golf, to be told as a non member we had to pay a temporary membership fee of 500 rupees each when we asked if they served afternoon tea. We sat on the terrace and lapped up the view, it was relaxing and beautiful although the actual golfers were few and far between. We ordered tea and sandwiches as it appeared an actual afternoon tea was not available, one plate of cheese and cucumber sandwiches and one plate of cheese and tomato sandwiches and a pot of tea each. It took half an hour for the tea and sandwiches to be served! We were then served two plates of cheese, cucumber and tomato sandwiches with chips! When we pointed out that was not what we had ordered the waiter said he had told the chef correctly - so that was that! It was not worth visiting the golf club to eat but for the relaxing ambience and views from the terrace it was worth it. Even if the tea and sandwiches cost less than the temporary joining fee. We will not be returning, once was enough.

The authorities cannot give you an assurance that the place is clear of the virus ,they have also for reasons only known to themselves increased the price of green fees ,it takes 5 hours or more to drive to this golf course at 6900feet above sea level . its a beautiful trip over rolling hills and tea plantations . Better go by train its an adventure . This club is the Fourth oldest in the world and the only club still with the original grass in its fairways and greens. As with everything corruption is engrained into the workings of the club , with the entrance of some members from the Royal Colombo Golf Club known as the worlds no 1 corrupt golf club. Do not travel at present even with the Air Port open in Colombo they are desperate for money and safety is not their concern .I will be returning to the club next month and will update..

Clearly this is not greatest quality golf course in the world.
But i found it is overall a great experience since
+ course and club is 130 years old and club house certainly has a lot of charm
+ the town is grown around the course so you have a lot of interesting interaction - hitting above roads, people crossing. For some this is disturbing but i found it interesting
+ Clubs, shoes for rental and green fee affordable. All ca 60 € for person
+ caddies obligatory but also helping to navigate the course through. Their official fee is small 800 rupies so please tip them additional 1000 rupies and you will make them happy

- people crossing the fairways, some tee shots cross road
- weather changes quickly in 1900 meters and it can be cold
