We enjoyed going unto the church because of it's historical value. Built 170 years ago by the British and still very well maintained. There are 2 stain glass windows that Queen Elizabeth donated on her 2 trips to the country in 1952 and 1954. The cemetery and grounds are not being maintained as well as perhaps they could be.

We visited the church on the off chance that it might be open. I was closed, but our guide found the caretaker, who also happened to be a member of the choir. He opened up the church for us, a lovely peaceful building, full of colonial history. The caretaker was informative and very interesting. If you are interested in churches and the history of the country, it is well worth a visit.

The Father in charge was kind enough to open the church specially for us to have a look around. It has been built in 1845 to resemble the Canterbury Church of England. You could appreciate the architectural features of the stained glass windows and large olden day wooden doors. A leisurely walk among the tomb stones is a must.
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and His Royal Highness, Duke of Edinburgh has attended the Easter Morning Service on 18 April 1954!
The pipe organ has been repaired recently and is played during the Sunday morning service. I think the English Service is at 7.30 or 8.00am.

Colonial time old church. Has beautiful stained glass pictures and some british time tombs of clergy men .
Care taker opened the church and showed us inside of the church. More than 100 years old pipe piano and old pews and furniture are very attractive .

Worth a visit. Like so much here, it's a lesson in history. The clergyman was charming and informative.

It is a very nice old church. It is interesting to read the plaques inside the church of the congregation that have passed away.

Great quiet spot close to town - sounds macarbe but viewing the gravestones was interesting reading - so many didn't get through childhood. Inside the church also interesting - it was open (Sunday) when we visited. And unlike most things in Sri Lanka there is no hefty foreigners entrance fee! No fee at all actually.

A not too thrilling old local church, famous for hosting Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip in 1953 w/ a commemorative stained glass window. Some really old tombstones and interesting trees but signs suggesting no photos anywhere on the grounds much less inside the rather humble church. Fine if you're looking to get in out of the rain for a half-hour or so or wish to worship there.

It's usually open on any day....the priest lives just behind the church so if you really like to see it and its closed, you can go ask him :-)
