    Beautiful Lake
Lake Gregory in Nuwara Eliya is the place to go for water activities and its a great spot for picnics. You can find ponies trotting along the lake. There are also boats that you can hire to go out on the lake and enjoy some serenity.

Should have been a higher rating as this is a fairly pretty place but…
Why let motorbikes on what is a footpath? Was really annoyed to see an idiot wizzing past us, locally local, probably not paid an entrance fee (300 each for us foreigners). On the subject of fees , where is the money going? Clearly not on signage or update of paths. As 60% of the way around we were presented with a barbed wire fence with no clear U turn options. Why? We’ll never know. Instead we had to squeeze through and scramble up bank, cross a road bridge (which we would have had to have done had we turnaround and walked 500m back) and then rejoin path (via another entrance point - don’t throw your ticket away or you’ll pay again)

    Time pass
We took a motor boat for a trip around the lake, there are other options, jet boat, jet ski pedal boat or kayak. The rates are fixed and it is a pleasant activity. One can also walk around the lake.

    Peaceful and beautiful nature
The lake is in a nice park. There is an entrance fees to it around 600 SR. The park is clean not many seating areas. Beautiful to walk around. The lake is so beautiful and clean. There are water activities like a short speed boat ride, jet ski, paddling boats and so on.

Man-made lake, save your time and money
This is a man-made lake which was not anything special. We paid Rs6,000 for a boat trip that only lasted 20 minutes and was a complete waste of money... Later in the evening we had to pay an entrance fee to walk around part of the lake, which once again was not great,as the paths are not well maintained. Overall, we could have given this place a miss with the benefit of hindsight....

    Beautiful lake
Gregory lake is a very beautiful lake surrounded by mountains in the city of Nuwara Eliya. One has some boating and jet ski options for those interested. It is so beautiful that one can simply sit by the lake for hours and enjoy the view.

This is a public lake located at the city of Nuwara Eliya. It is unbelievable that going to a public lake has to pay LKR300 per person for foreigners plus parking fee of LKR100. There are lakes in Colombo and Kandy City that open to public free of charge. We still don’t understand why there is an entrance fee to access this particular lakeside. There are many different kind of boat rides and water ski activities on the lake with additional fees required. Many locals were here for the boat ride since there is no fee required to enter this lakeside park for locals. The surrounding of the lake is not particularly scenic nor beautiful. Few food vendors around, portable toilet and small patch of flower beds. Don’t waste your money and time here. Seriously!!!

We walked to this lake only to find as ‘foreigners’ we would be charged 200 rupees to walk around it.
I know this is common but the whole area was covered in litter and debris so paying to walk around was not appealing!

There are at least two entrances both staff are on top if their game spotting the ‘foreigners’

There appeared to be some boats. Nd jet skis available should you wish to go in.

I’ve seen better everywhere to be fair so paying was not an option for me.

I wouldn’t bother.

Go to little d gland and have a sarnie and a drink. It’s much nicer.

This is a large attractive leisure lake not too far from Ella town. There's a small entrance fee for tourists and then You can walk around the lake or perhaps take a boat ride for a little extra cost. Also popular with locals.

We had a little bit of time before our train departed Nuwara Eliya so decided to visit Gregory Lake at the recommendation of our innkeeper. It is apparently a very popular place with locals on a Sunday, enjoying boat rides and jet ski rides on the lake. There is a walking path around one side of the lake, but it ends abruptly. The path on the other side is really for bicycles, but we walked there too. Since we were not interested in a boat ride, this lake really did not provide any standout qualities for us. I would skip this if pressed for time.

Unfortunately the lake is very dirty and it is very noisy on weekends. Many locals come from the city and drive around the lake very loudly with jet skis and boats. If you want to go around the lake, it costs because you are a foreigner. Too bad.

It actually costs a little money to walk/run on the path around the lake. It is also a lot of animals there; horses/cows/dogs and a lot of garbage. Had a little smell as well. The lake is «man-made» but it Doesnt look like it. With a little cleaning up there this would be a great spot.

Foreigners has to pay 200 LKR to enter the walking path around the lake. At the lake it's possible to buy different rides like boat ride, speed boat and jet skis or you can simply just enjoy a nice walk.
Unfortunately there was a lot of plastic bottles in the lake, which I didn't expect as the rest of the location is very nice kept.

Quite frankly, and utterly depressing experience given the sheer and shocking volume of plastic waste floating at every shoreline of the lake. It is made worse by the fact that tourists actually pay to enter the park. What do they do with the money? They certainly don't clear up the garbage.

To add to the pollution, speed boats and jetskis tear up and down the small lake continually. Why anyone would want to take a pleasure cruise in this water is beyond me.

Sri Lankan people are in general the friendliest and most generous people you could wish to meet. However, the plastic is becoming a national shame. As a visitor to the country, touring around for six months, the rubbish/garbage/litter in every river, stream and beach is a disgrace. I went for a sea swim and collected 25 plastic bags in 10 minutes.

In the heart of hill country, Gregory Lake is a extremely popular place with both foreign tourists and locals. This is a place to enjoy cool weather. Gregory Lake, is a reservoir in hill city, Nuwara-Eliya, Sri Lanka. Lake Gregory was built by Governor William Gregory between 1872 and 1877. The park near the lake gives you various activities such speed boat, swan boats, dinky boats, Pony ride and many more. There is also a bicycle path around the lake. Bicycle cost from 100 rupees per hour. The park around it has a walkway and its well maintained. So can take a saunter stroll along the area’s 5 km path. Lot of flowers between walking paths given extra attraction to the park and also small restaurants are situated one side of the park.
