We reached here on 29th March, 2022 and were crossing the lake when very soothing music made us stop. Groups of students were playing very pleasing tunes and were doing a sort of march past for some VIP Guests. We enjoyed their rythemic beats and cool breeze of Nuwara Eliya!
Next was a boat ride in this lke. Took a motor boat, which took approx 20+ minutes for SL Rupees 5000/- and it too was a great experience.

Lake was beautiful but the park really needs to figure their mess out. We were yelled at while walking in and made to pay while everyone else enjoyed freely. Only foreigners have to pay. Then we rented bikes from the park. We got on the other side of the lake to be yelled at by the park workers who made us then get off the trails with our bikes and walk on the road. We rented the bikes from the park to ride on the trail! On the other side of the lake they kick us out for riding bikes?! They really need to figure their mess out. We were basically the only foreigners here due to the crisis and were treated like absolute crap by the workers at this park. Horrible experience.

Nice big lake with greenery. It is well crowded when we visited on 29th dec 2019. They have an entrance fees of 200 rs which is not reasonable since we had little time spent walking , seeing and taking pictures. There is speed boat regular boat, Jet ski rides but since we enjoyed the same in Kandy lake , we decided not to opt for boat ride. The helicopter ride is available but it is too expensive for merely 8 mins ride costing you around 100 USD/person.

Quite frankly, and utterly depressing experience given the sheer and shocking volume of plastic waste floating at every shoreline of the lake. It is made worse by the fact that tourists actually pay to enter the park. What do they do with the money? They certainly don't clear up the garbage.
To add to the pollution, speed boats and jetskis tear up and down the small lake continually. Why anyone would want to take a pleasure cruise in this water is beyond me.
Sri Lankan people are in general the friendliest and most generous people you could wish to meet. However, the plastic is becoming a national shame. As a visitor to the country, touring around for six months, the rubbish/garbage/litter in every river, stream and beach is a disgrace. I went for a sea swim and collected 25 plastic bags in 10 minutes.

This is a public lake located at the city of Nuwara Eliya. It is unbelievable that going to a public lake has to pay LKR300 per person for foreigners plus parking fee of LKR100. There are lakes in Colombo and Kandy City that open to public free of charge. We still don’t understand why there is an entrance fee to access this particular lakeside. There are many different kind of boat rides and water ski activities on the lake with additional fees required. Many locals were here for the boat ride since there is no fee required to enter this lakeside park for locals. The surrounding of the lake is not particularly scenic nor beautiful. Few food vendors around, portable toilet and small patch of flower beds. Don’t waste your money and time here. Seriously!!!

The lake was an easy walk from the centre of Nuwara Eliya via Victoria Park. It costs 300 RPS each adult to go in both Victoria Park and Gregory Lake (children free). We had two strollers and some of the walk was along the road.
The lake is quite large, there are boat rides and jet bikes and pedellos. Fast food type concessions are available at the lake - we chose a restaurant over the road.
It’s a nice area to get away from the busy traffic in the town.

We walked to this lake only to find as ‘foreigners’ we would be charged 200 rupees to walk around it.
I know this is common but the whole area was covered in litter and debris so paying to walk around was not appealing!
There are at least two entrances both staff are on top if their game spotting the ‘foreigners’
There appeared to be some boats. Nd jet skis available should you wish to go in.
I’ve seen better everywhere to be fair so paying was not an option for me.
I wouldn’t bother.
Go to little d gland and have a sarnie and a drink. It’s much nicer.

This is a large attractive leisure lake not too far from Ella town. There's a small entrance fee for tourists and then You can walk around the lake or perhaps take a boat ride for a little extra cost. Also popular with locals.

The lake big and hills providing a picturesque backdrop to the beauty of the place. If you visit the lake and take a stroll around it there is an entrance charge.
Boat ride point situated a short distance away from the main entrance can be accessed for free and boat ride will cost SLR 500/- per person for 30 minute ride. minimum 8 person per boat.
The lake is clean and the breeze is very comforting for a good walk in morning and evening. Horse rides are available in the lake as an additional attraction.
Go and enjoy this place.

In the heart of hill country, Gregory Lake is a extremely popular place with both foreign tourists and locals. This is a place to enjoy cool weather. Gregory Lake, is a reservoir in hill city, Nuwara-Eliya, Sri Lanka. Lake Gregory was built by Governor William Gregory between 1872 and 1877. The park near the lake gives you various activities such speed boat, swan boats, dinky boats, Pony ride and many more. There is also a bicycle path around the lake. Bicycle cost from 100 rupees per hour. The park around it has a walkway and its well maintained. So can take a saunter stroll along the area’s 5 km path. Lot of flowers between walking paths given extra attraction to the park and also small restaurants are situated one side of the park.

Hi I'm Planning to visit nuwaraeliya in April 13 to 15 two nights, I have few concerns,
Are there public transportation available in Nuwara Eliya (Specially April 13 and 14),
Are there restaurants open in the Sinhala Tamil New year days?
My Plan to get the train to Nanuoya and use the public transportation for travel other destinations, is it possible these days?
Are Sri Lankans charged an enytrance fee then how much?

The entry for Srilankans is free, as our driver didn’t pay for the entrance. There were other exits where tourists can try to sneak in but they had the security guys at each exit.

Can you go swimming here? If not, is there any natural places in Nuwara Eliya for swimming?

Didn't see anyone swimming. I guess the water itself is not that suitable for swimming, but for a boat trip around is good. You can do water biking.
