You can park your vehicle at the Single Tree Buddhist temple. Please try to tell them about your visit to add some respect. From the temple you have to walk. It is fun. We walked with our two kids. You can have a spectacular view of Nuwara Eliya town from there. The top of the hill is closed due to security reasons since there are communication towers. The climate and environment change rapidly when you go up.

We had not planned to climb this hill but we were drawn by the glistening green leaves of the tea bushes. Half way to the top is a Buddhist temple which can be a rest stop for the weary or the final stop for the unprepared. There are beautiful views of the town, the race track and Lake Gregory. Allot around 2 hours for a leisurely hike. Be sure to bring your own water, energy bars, and protection from the sun.

We were expecting to summit to a viewpoint with an iconic tree but there’s no such place. The whole area up the mountain from the temple is known as single tree hill. We drove and parked at the temple and walked from there on - approximately half hour uphill (not steep so easily doable with kids). You end up at a telecom / radio tower - behind that there was a pathway through a forest stretch that leads to few bushes ... there was a path way down but we didn’t know where it leads to and since we had to get to our vehicles at the temple we took the same route downhill. It’s a decent walk if you have nothing else to do.

Hiked the single tree hill over the Christmas break and found it rather refreshing. The best thing about this hill is the location, it's on the nuwara Eliya town so you dont have to struggle to get to it and u can pretty much walk as much as you like and hike down. The view is amazing

Require 4 wheel drive. We had to do hard trek about 45 minutes. The views were magnificent. A little clarification is required: Single Tree here refers to mobile towers at the Summit :(. It's possible approach from Town also. We couldn't get view from the summit as it was fenced. We couldn't explore further as due to thick fog

I thoroughly enjoyed the walk up Single Tree Hill this week. However on the way back down just above the temple, I was attacked by a local man with a knife wanting to rape me. I was in hiking gear - trousers, boots, Tshirt, rucksack so nothing provocative. Fortunately I practice martial arts, so was confident and able to diffuse the situation without any physical violence. It could have been a very different story.

Single women - seriously reconsider doing this walk alone.

Like a previous reviewer said, this place is not well signposted. We weren't staying nearby and we had to ask for directions. No one seemed to know where this elusive hill was. We finally found Single Tree Road, which is also known as Scur State Road on Google maps. The entrance is right in front of the Nuwara Eliya Race Course grounds. Once we established we were on the right track, it was an easy walk up to the top, through a tea plantation. We brought sandwiches and had a picnic brunch with an amazing view. The kids found it fun.

If you like a good hike this is the place in Nuwara Eliya.
Can drive upto Swarnagiri maha viharaya and from there can hike upto the top of the hill.
Wear comfortable shoes. There's nothing much to do on top of the hill except for the telecom antennas.
But you will see the entire town from here. It is a marvellous view.

The run up Single Tree offers about two kilometres of steady hills on a smooth road followed by another 500m+ of much rockier terrain. You need to be careful with your footing once past the temple up to the final gate. It takes about 20min all the way up and then 15min down as part of a cautious holiday workout. It is lovely to run in cooler weather in Sri Lanka through some tea plantations and the view from the top is great.

This is one of the best location to view the Nuwara Eliya. The road is sealed up to the Single Tree Hill monastery. You could take a taxi or hire car up to the monastery & park there. Past the monastery, it is all gravel road, would not recommend taking a car unless it is 4x4.

The walk from the monastery is about 20 mins. On the top of the hill is a telecom tower. Towards the end of the walk, you will come across wired fences, go past the fence & you will be able to get spectacular views of Nuwara Eliya, the lake, mountains and tea fields.
