taking a tuktuk to overcome a part of the liking we climbed up all the way to the upper part of the waterfall. 1st step is the cave where, long time ago the Homo Sapiens Ambalangodes lived. There are no remains left, but the caves give a good example of how people lived there. Also swallows make their nests and breed. Excavators vound thousands of seasnales remains but these too are all gone. The climbing is adventuurous but good to do when you are a bit in shape and you will be rewarded with beautiful nature all around. 2nd part walking goes through a river bedding, sometimes full of water so ask around before you decide to go. To me the effort was very rewarding.

This is located little bit away from main road. Kitulgala is famous for White Water Rafting, so you can visit Belilena Cave once you visit Kitulgala

It is a 3 km round trip from the place where we stayed ( Palmstone retreat ) and was well worth it
This is one of the larger prehistoric caves on the island, where the 12,000-year-old skeletal remains of ’Balangoda Man’ (Homo Sapiens Balangodensis) were found.
There is no proper place for a vehicle to park or turn around at the entrance so it's best to either take a three wheeler to make this trip on foot !

I love this place. it's not very crowded when we visited there and lonely beauty. you can go near it by a Tuk or a vehicle, about 5KM from the main road. and few 250m walking (most steps) it have historical value as well. what i most loved was the cave waterfall.
this is a must visit place if you're passing kitulgala.

Key points in the memory are the following
1. Scenic ride from Ginigathena for about 5km,with the clear views of western edge of mountain ranges [early morning is the ideal time ]
2. an enchanting walk[ 30 minutes] in the rubber plantation and the smiling kids of the few dwellings along the route.
3.chance of a life time to be Behind and under a water fall cascading from above the cave [June till September]
4. walkabout the cave ,rather small in size and time specnt soaking in the tale of the ancient community of Srilankans reputed to have lived here 30000 years back.[Its a must that the research is done before one gets there ]
5. Notice the bird life ,specially from September to May

bit of a hike from palmstone retreat. better ask the hotel to arrange transportation. once you finally get there its a nice place to visit once. (the view is definitely worth it) avoid bathing in the waterfall on top as could be dangerous.

The cascade that comes alive right over the cave during the wet season is an experience to cherish.Another is the walk that goes through the century old rubber plantation. A watchful eye might not fail to notice quite a few number of bird species among the trees-one of the SriLanka Grey Horn Bill

This cave also a hidden attraction in Kitulgala. The road towards the cave is not good. However, if you have an SUV, it would be an easy trip. After reaching the cave, you will feel amazing and relax. The waterfall may be the reason to built a cave here for meditating.

The road is not good. It would be difficult to go by car, but you can manage.
