Statue hidden in a small park
Jul 2018 • Family
The Lenin statue in Karaganda has suffered the same fate as other Lenin statues in Kazakhstan. Many have been moved from prominent locations to less visible areas. This statue which was on a main road, is hidden in Lenin Park behind the cinema, and is not visible unless you are visiting the park. We had visited Lenin statues in Almaty, Astana and Semey that had also been moved. In some cities e.g. Turkistan, his statue had disappeared altogether. This statue was in great condition, and seemed well maintained. The monument has a brown tiled pedestal, and the brown upper torso of Lenin, with coat draped loosely around his shoulders, is on top of the pedestal.

We took bus # 71 from the Railway Station directly to the park. The park is well maintained and has many benches to relax. Another monument is at the eastern entrance of the park. This area is accessible 24 hours and free. The monument to Kayzebeck Bi is a short walk away in front of the university on Mira Boulevard.

Must see monument hidden behind the local cinema

Don't visit Karaganda with so many Soviet symbols without visiting the statue of Lenin, hidden in a small park behind the Lenina Cinema. The statue was originally placed on the Bukhar Zhyrau Avenue.

Big Lenin

You can’t go many places in Kazakhstan and not see some tribute to Lenin and this one is actually fairly nice as far as Lenin statues go. We were told it was refurbished a number of years ago so that is possibly why it looks reasonably well preserved, also it is granite so that probably helps it hold up to Kazakh winters.

Massive Lenin
Jul 2015 • Couples
Very massive and in very good conditions of preservation. It is not located in the center, but only some km far from it.
