Cute dining experience
Nov 2019
If you like having a short walk while looking for some food to eat, this is the place to go to. Some cute and cozy izakaya's with small seating capacity. Don't be disappointed if some places are full, just keep on walking till you find an empty of half filled place. Plenty to eat and drink. We had some good choices of food to choose from. The cook will fry/cook it in front of you, while showing some 'fiery' display as they cook up the food. Different shops might serve different food. There are some menus placed outside for your information. Suitable for adults, not so for young children though. Booze are served as well in most establishments. The whole walkway is well lit. You can peek through the windows of the cute shops to see what's 'çooking'. Overall, a great place for 'food window shopping'.

A great place to go if you want a quick drink and good food.

The famous 'Kitano yatai' is located 2 minutes away from Obihiro Down Town station, which has a number of 'Izakaya', which is a type of Japanese bar that serve a variety of dishes accompanied with alcoholic drinks. It was very interesting to see so many in one street. Each 'Izakaya' was very small that could only fit around 10 people. The one I visited was called 'Enjin' and served a variety of meat dishes and western food. The food was very good and inexpensive. The one I enjoyed the most was dishes with 'Yurine', which apparently can only be tasted in Obihiro. It was something I have never heard, seen or tried which tasted very good and sweet, which had the texture of potatoes. The 'Yurine bataa yaki', which translates as 'Yurine seared with butter' was very good. I also really liked the Beef with red wine sauce, the meat was very tender and good in volume relative the cost. The famous 'Otoshi' which are something like appetizers were also very good with the red curry with beef and baguette. Other dishes like pizza and famous 'Kunnnsei' dishes such as the eel they served also tasted very good.

Street that consists of small izakayas
Feb 2019 • Friends
This is a street that consists of small izakaya's (Japanese bar's). It is a good place for not only enjoying different types of sake, but also for dining! Each of these izakaya's have special Hokkaido meals. Some of them offer some types of fish that can be caught only around Hokkaido area. This is a place where you will be able to explore a new taste! They also have a variety of different kind of types of the traditional Hokkaido sake! This street is also good for bar hopping. The staff is outgoing and very friendly. If you come in bigger groups, I do suggest you to reserve the desired bar in advance because the number of customers they can serve is limited.

Great Sake, Great Food
Feb 2019 • Friends
I loved the Yatai Izakaya experience. Yatai is normally a pop-up stall, but this one here in Obihiro close to the station is permanent. It is opened to the street in summer but shut and cosy in the winter. The people sit (~ 8 seats) around the counter in the middle from where the owner cooks and serves food and drinks. Great variety of sake and small dishes. The food which is served varies also from shop to shop (sashimi, yakitori, kushiage, gyoza, pizza,...). The street consists of 20 shops.

Best place for the Izakaya dinner experience!
Feb 2019 • Friends
The street consists in 20 small restaurants or Izakayas where you can enter to enjoy a variety of food, inluding some local delicatessen. In summer it´s open air and in winter they make it super warm and cozy. Great experience. Sometimes reserving in advance one of the places is recommended if you come with a bigger group (usually only 8 people fit in each restaurant).

Can see can't eat

Yes I agree with other reviews, nice row of small stall, great varieties of food; but no chance to try. Some the stores got sits, when they see visitors, they will tell you is reserved. I visited this place on 2 occasions, both same bad experience. This place is not foreigner friendly.

Kita no Yatai, and the nearby Nagaya (Long house) areas are made up of lots of small shops with a variety of often unique, reasonably priced and interesting food. Worth a visit if you want to try a few different kinds of food.

Nice small restaurants
Jun 2017 • Solo
I visited Kita no yatai locates in downtown Obihiro in June 2017. There are tens of small restaurants in Kita no yatai. Japanese, French, Chinese... My favorite place was Kohituji, the restaurant serves lamb grilled , stewed, produced in the region. If you love lamb, you should try it. It was the best lamb In my life.
Sake and nice wine rouge or blanc, beer are available. The restaurant also serve Japanese seafood and organic potatos. The price is reasonable and the owner and his wife were very friendly.

A "Must" Experience for Obihiro
Nov 2016 • Solo
This was about a 15 minute walk from my hotel in Obihiro. The hotel staff had mentioned it. It is a series of cubicle-size restaurants built with simple materials. Each "restaurant" fits 6-8 people. Most had menus only in Japanese but one had its specialties listed in French "Boeuf Bourguignon. That one was always full. I wasn't sure how I would cross the language barrier to get in to one of them but an owner came outside for a break and talked to me in broken English so I went into his, pointed at pictures, and soon his wife was frying up delicious octopus and fish for me. There were two other young men there, one from Osaka and one from Tokyo who did not know each other before but shared the same last name. We all managed to speak broken English (them) and Japanese (me) to each other, had some good laughs, and enjoyed beer.
