A 40 minute boat ride one way along the Musi River is the excitement. Children will enjoy it very much.Nothing on the island except there is a Chinese temple and a pagoda. But if you do not go to the island, you will have nothing to do in Palembang. The island is full of activity during Chinese New Year.

Reached Kemaro Island from one of the many boats that are moored at the side of the river by Ampera Bridge. Got chatting to some guys earlier who were up for going too, so we got the boat operator to take the three of us for 120,000 rp return all in. At Rp40,000 each return this is pretty reasonable I thought. The 20 minute or so journey was an interesting one. the boat was taking a bit of water and the engine cut out a few times - nothing too serious and all part of the experience! Kemaro Island is fairly underwhelming. There is a Chinese temple there which looks a bit tourist produced. There is the love tree where people have scrawled their names in the hope of eternal love. In addition there are a few statues of lions, bhudda, and weirdly, some pandas hugging. Palembang doesn't haev a huge amount of offer so if you are there you might as well go to Kemaro if not for the journey to get there, but don't expect a great deal.

Visiting the island accidentally and loving it. started from the very beginning with small boat from Ampera bridge to the island, along the way was so much fun and when reaching the island, suddenly was very peaceful. so many trees and family having their picnic. it is one of away from the city activity fit for family. either renting a bike or walking around is good.

It all begain with a boat ride. I was impressed with the high safety standards; it took a while to double check that everyone had a life jacket and that the number of people was under the boat limit. Then, the pagoda and experience of the Buddhist temple was lovely. We were able to play a divination game at the temple and enjoy the fragrant incense. I suggest climbing the steps up to the 9th floor and enjoy the glorious view.

We went here by a friend's private speedboat so I cant tell you how much the fee was. It took about 15-20 minutes (one way) from Dermaga Kuto Besak (close to Riverside Restaurant). We passed by some industrial big ship on the way, really exciting ride!
At Kemaro Island there was a chinese temple along with a pagoda. The building is well maintenanced, good place to take pictures. Definitely a must visit place when you are visiting Palembang.

The island's attraction is the Chinese temple with its interesting love story between a princess and a Chinese trader. The boat trip gives you more insights about how the locals live, the floating houses and petrol stations and houses on stilts .

One of the tourist spot in Palembang.

There some ways to get to this island,

One is from Benteng Kuto Besak by hiring a "ketek" boat. Price is about IDR 300,000 , round way. Destination about 15 mins. But there is no safety life jacket. So prepare for the waves causes by other boat that impacting your boat.

The other way is from Pusri area which is very near, maybe 2-3 mins ketek boat ride.

The island itself is nothing special, there is some picture spot, and the kids local are friendly.

At our last hours in Palembang, I insisted to see the island of Kemaro. From one boat operator to another one, they asked for enormous difference price to cross the river on to go to the island. Perhaps they saw my hub as a foreigner. Anyway, when we reached the place, we were dissapointed. One little information about the man who is drawn with his wife because of his hidden presence from his parents and then I do not understand what is the connection with the temple an so on.
Man will spent only 15 minutes the most to explore the "famous" island and if man has to dig theirs pocket so deep for that, it was not worthy. Guests, think twice before you decided to go to Kamaro island unless after this review they change the situation or the information of that famous island.

It's a place that reminds us to honour and respect our parents.. the history about the missing Siti Fatimah and her husband Tan Boen An makes the people here take this place as a sacred one.
