visited Cau chocolate factory and farm at the begining of December last year.that day was my last day when i had my regular Bali trip in 2019. there are many programs here,i joined chocolate factory tour and making chocolate, the duration of this tour is two hours. you can add lunch, but that time i didnt, cuz dont know when i will arrive at. if you want to have lunch here, must order in advance, cuz they cant make it on site. when i arrived,a staff there greeted me with smiling face. first, i had my welcome drink, it was a glass of chocolate drinks. then, my chocolate making session started, i just need to pour the chocolate liquid into a chocolate making mold, also put some nuts, raisins in it. after that, she guided me to their small farm, showed me some cocoa trees and cocoa. we walked through the ricefield, i learnt some farming knowledge from her. after that, we back to the restaurant. i ordered a special Cau chocolate ice cream, also had a fruits salad. the ice cream was nice, worth a try. the last session was factory-visiting, have to wear gloves and protective clothes due to hygiene. after that, i went to cau chocolate shop, there are lots of options, like chocolate bars, chocolate powder, vegan chocolate, raw chocolate butter, cocoa powder, etc. they have very special flavour, that is durian chocolate. but i didnt try. i bought some flavoured organic chocolate bars, cocoa powder. before the tour ended,i got three chocolates i made on sticks. a very memorable experience, hope can join Cau chocolate tour again.

We booked the tour one day before and we picked the one with lunch included. As we stayed at a hotel in Jimbalan, it took the driver 2 hours to bring us to this place located in Tabanan. The weather was not good and it kept raining during the drive. However, the rain stopped when we arrived and we were greeted by a young lady. She asked us if we would like to have the tour or lunch first and we decided to go for the tour as we feared it might rain anytime.

We were welcomed with a Cocoa drink, the taste was quite 'raw' (so to speak). After the drink, we were driven by car for few minutes when the tour should start. We were given a conical hat and a bamboo stick for the tour and the lady (who greeted us) did the commentary (yes, only we two in the tour)

I expected to see something like in Europe with huge area of cocoa tree plantation but unfortunately, there were not many cocoa trees and not technically planted. And more odd was the 2/3 of the tour route was rice fields, coconut trees. At the end of the tour, we returned back to where we had the welcome drink.

We were led to a small factory but not sure if we went at the wrong time as no one was working and no machine was functioning (Yet, we were asked to wear hygienic caps, masks and gloves before we entered the factory. There were flies whirring around in the factory and we looked like a fool in this scenario.)

At the end of the factory tour, we were given a small chocolate piping to make chocolate bars. May be I was wrong in expecting more hands-on workshop. Clearly there weren't.

The lunch was typical Indonesia farm cuisine and to me, I found it exceptionally good (as we were often spoilt by hotel and tourist restaurants). Ironically, it was more a highlight of the tour (than the chocolate tour). And luckily we had lunch after the tour as heavy rain started pouring during our lunch.

A bit disappointment was the gift shop's pricing. We bought few products and found out later you could find much cheaper in most stores near our hotel. It made us felt a bit cheated, coming a long way to buy something more expensive.

Staff very friendly and knowledgeable, and was a great hands on experience which gave us an appreciation of how the chcocolate is made - from growing the trees right through to production. We also ploughed a rice field with a cow and planted some seedlings which was great fun. A massive 7 dishes were served for lunch which was way too much food for us and we wished the staff had joined us to eat as we felt bad not eating it all.
Overall a really good few hours and would recommend getting amongst it.

Visited this wonderful place with friends. The people there were super passionate about their plans, their processing for chocolate, their consideration for the overall environment - no waste, the beautiful scenery, and the of course awesome freaking chocolate!!! I am not one to really like chocolate all that much unless it is a brownie, but this stuff was amazing. No added chemicals or syrups or sugars, just straight chocolate. We were able to taste cocoa from the first stages to the end result. The tripadvisor showed that they were closed, but when we called they said that we could come by for a tour and tasting. They are expanding and still getting things ready for tours and such, but very cool place. I wish I could help out more..but tripadvisor is pretty big so I am more than happy to take the time to write about our experience.

We were 6 people looking for breakfast at 10:30 am, the place was empty and looked cute so we decided to go there.
It took them 45 minutes to finally bring our smoothies to the table. The first mistake was that they gave us all the wrong smoothies.
After waiting again for about 20 more minutes they brought a toast with avocado where the avocado was hard to find.
After 10 more minutes they brought a chicken salad bowl that didn’t look like the picture at all... it was 3 pieces of lettuce, a little bit of chicken and a few tomatoes.
That’s when we decided to cancel everything and leave.
The people working there was completely disoriented, laughing at us and not knowing how to solve the situation.
It took them again around 20 minutes to finally charge us.
Terrible experience and a complete waste of time, do not go there.

visited Cau chocolate factory in 2019, there are many workshops held here.after two years, when i revisited Bali in June this year, i attended chocolate bars making and hot chocolate drinks making workshop. when i arrived, wow! i saw a big changes, Cau chocolate factory renamed to desa coklat Bali, which means Bali chocolte town. the manager told me it is because during pandemic, they focus more on domestic tourits, they want to promote knowledge to school children in Bali and Indonesia. there is a garden now, also a cafe, you can have lunch and drinks here.before the workshop started, they welcomed me by a glass of iced chocolate,it is sweet, after drinking it, i felt happy.then i had lunch, and also making chocolate first.it is simple, just pouring chocolate liquor into a mould.this time the mould is christmas tree,so i will get two christmas tree chocolates. Rudi, the manager then guided me to their farm,to give some information about cacoa and everything regarding chocolate.i also made a hot chocolate drinks during the farm tour.cuz they dont allowed visitors go inside their factory,so just see workers making chocolate ouside.when the workshop finished, i received the chocolate i made, and bought some chocolate bars and a pack of hot chocolate powder.the experience is unforgettable, hope can come again in the future.
