Had a nice walk down to the lake (about 90 minutes) and then a short canoe ride back to where our driver was waiting. It would have been nicer to take a longer ride around the lake but we just went straight. There were some cool looking temples that we missed.

All in all it was worth it though. Maybe should have suggested we take a round about route back but didn’t know we were going straight back until half way there.

Peaceful lake, perfect for spending easy time fishing and also wandering around the rain forest. There is a lovely temple that appears really old by the lake. It is not packed with tourists.

Based on other reviews/lonely planet we had high expectations of this place. We hiked from Munduk, through the rice fields and hills to the lake. The hike itself was hard, but definitely worth it. The lake was supposed to be the place to take a relaxed break and enjoy the bueautiful surroundings. However.... After paying 15.000 rp entrance fee ("used for maintenance") we entered the park. Trash was surrounding the lake and there was no place to sit and relax. In short, don't visit this lake, a view from one of the surrounding mountains is enough (and much nicer than reality). Perhaps the other lakes in the area are better, but skip this one!

Danau Tamblingan is one of the places in Bali still not touched by mass tourism. To reach this place, it's necessary to rent motorbike, Im not sure of public transportation here ;)
You can easily enter the lakeside from Munduk village and take a small walk through the forest. You can find there small temple and what more important, silence. Grab a cup of coffee from small shops around and enjoy the moment. Honestly, one of best places I've seen in Bali so far.

Trekking through the tropical rainforest that borders Danau Buyan and Danau Tamblingan. Undisturbed for centuries by outside influences, nature has been left to run its course in this spectacular area of Bali. The trekking about 2 hour jungle trek, including the crossing of the lake by traditional canoe.

As part of a tour we stopped at a view point in the mountains where we had a great view over Lake Buyan and Tamblingan also known as the twin lake because the lakes are connected with each other underground. They had build a wooden platform where you could stand on to get a better panorama. As part of a tour this was a very nice stop, but I can imagine that if you travel alone the long way to these lakes is not worth it. Better to combine this stop with munduk waterfall and lake bratan to make the long journey worth it!

Danau (means lake) Tamblingan and Danau Buyan offer fantastic roadside views. A must-stop for road trips along Jalan Raya Pancasari. When we stopped there were even a couple of locals with a huge python, lizard and bat for tourist poses (at Rp. 30,000 each).

Cooling place with very nice scenery view. Few hours drive from Kuta area but worth going. Not to missed if you are in Bali.

My wife and I visited Tambalingan Lake with the hope of doing some hiking around the area. I've always enjoyed this type of activity as its free, allows you to view nature and helps neutralise the calorie rich drinking that I was doing in Bali. Our lonely planet suggested the presence of a 4km hike along the southern edge of Danau Buyan from the car park, over the saddle to Danau Tamblingan and on to Asan Munduck. I asked my driver to take us to Asan Munduck but I think he ended up taking us just above that to the parking lot where the organisation 'Organisasi Pramuwisata Bangkok Bersama' on the western edge of Tamblingan lake, just above Asan Munduck. He informed us that it was illegal to hike without a guide. I initially assumed this was misinformation fuelled by his desire to get a commission but after finding very clear signs supporting this over the walking tracks we ended up having to hire a guide.

There are quite a few walks you can do around Lake Tamblingan and even up Gunung Lesong. The pricing varies from 300K to 1 million for a guide. We did the most popular trek which takes about 2 hours and goes around the south-eastern edge of the lake, eventually culminating a canoe boat ride back across the lake to the starting point.

I guess being from Australia I was a bit cynical about the need for the guide and quite frankly a bit annoyed I had to pay the fee which to me seemed like a way of getting money from tourists. However, after doing it I can say that the guide was actually needed. Unlike in Australia the 'trails' are all unmarked and there is a series of paths leading in all directions so you actually need someone to take you through so you don't get lost. The rainforest we saw was beautiful and some quite ancient.

Overall it was a decent and enjoyable experience but the forced payment did annoy me a little bit as I am not used to this when it comes to bushwalking. Bring sunscreen, insect repellent and plenty of water if you plan to do this.

One of my trips to Bali is Tamblingan Lake. The tour guide said that the name of the lake means medicine and mind, which is called the medicine of the soul! I personally like this lake very much. Although the sun is hot and glaring, I am grateful that the breeze is coming from time to time. I am not good at taking pictures, especially I like to shoot the scenery of the backlight! Sunshine always gives me positive energy, and I am full of hope for life.
