President Harry S Truman took America from its traditional isolationism into the age of international involvement. Despite his power, he never forgot where he came from. Today, visitors can experience the surroundings Truman knew as a young man of modest ambition through his political career and final years as a former president.

I was pleasantly surprised. The tour is excellent and succinct. I did not know that this home is considered a national park. I also did not know that one purchases the ticket at the National Park Visitor Center located on Main Street by the town...More

The house has been preserved just as it was on Bess Truman's death. This means the house looks like it did in the 70's. Like many older people at a certain point they stopped spending money on the house as they didn't figure it mattered...More

Truman's home is gorgeous! You have to pay for a tour at the national park visitor center located 5 blocks from the house in Downtown Independence. Watch a short film about the house then tour the house. His hat, cane, and coat are still hanging...More

Definitely a 'go to' Presidential Library and Home. Both are learning experiences for all things Harry Truman. The Library does have handicapped parking and an easy wheelchair accessible entrance. The Museum could use a small coffee shop to stop a moment, reflect, and continue. President...More

We were fortunate to have a private tour of the home with a very knowledgeable NPS docent. The tour lasted about 45 minutes (although advertised as 30 minutes) because the docent took the time to answer so many of our questions. Really enjoyed this little...More

Disappointed that we could not see more of the house. Have to stay on carpets, and there's no access to the 2nd floor.

This is a wonderful place to see Truman's home and the neighborhood he knew so well. Goes a long way to demonstrate how American character got forged in patriotic Midwesterners.
