It's a safe bet that most Americans are unaware of the many contributions Harry S. Truman made to American history. Despite all these achievements, he could hardly wait to return to his home in Independence, Missouri. Thanks to the family living in the home for decades after he left office and their contribution of the home to the nation, we... More

A short film is shown to set the stage of Harry S. Truman. Buy your tickets for the Truman Home. The home is five blocks away, so you may want to drive to the house.

The Truman Historic Neighbor is literally a walk back in time as many of the landmarks are still like they were when Truman lived and worked in Independence. The historic homes are well preserved and maintained. The Truman Walk is well marked and the map is very comprehensive.

Over the years we have been here three or four times. We have always enjoyed our visit. Our guide was really knowable and appeared to enjoy his job!

This is the heartland. Going to this museum and memorial grounds was more than a treat to celebrate the life of President Truman, it was also a reminder of how important small town America is to the nation. Small towns produced presidents and more importantly, our cultural compass. If you've lived in big cities for a long time, come here... More

My parents took me here before I left home to go to college. A beautiful historic Victorian home in the historic Truman district, near the Square.

The home at 219 North Delaware Street was built by Bess Truman's grandfather and was the home of Harry & Bess Truman from their marriage in 1919 until Harry's death in 1972 and Bess' death in 1982. The interior of the home has been left in the same condition as it was when Bess died and includes thousands of original... More

We did a different take on Truman this visit, bypassing the library-museum and opting for the National Historic Site. Start with the film, then enjoy the exhibits. Follow this by walking or driving to the many restored attractions in this quaint village.

A very interesting tour conducted by an employee of the U.S. Parks Dept. The visual and descriptive details were very interesting. Recommend for families interested in our nations presidential history.
