We arrived shortly after 9:30, watched the 15 minute movie and then toured the Truman home at 219 Delaware. Tickets must be purchased at the Visitor Center before going to the home. Only 8 persons allowed on the tour, which is Ranger led. You only see the first floor of the home which is decorated as it was when Bess... More

Step back into time with a visit to President Truman's home. The stories were very interesting and grounds beautiful. We were not allowed to go upstairs, so we didn't get to see much.

The tour of this home led by park ranger gives you the feel for how truly Truman was a common man. "the people's president" how simple he chose life. Bess's grandfather a lumber mill owner built the home & the ornate finishes speak for the pride craftsmen had then. When he left office there were no secret service with them... More

The home is beautiful & well maintain. A few things that would make it more enjoyable would be to walk out to the garage & see his old car. Second to be able to take photos inside, only allow to photo the house from the front & side. You cannot go the the 3rd floor due to it was not... More

It's a beautiful house with so many interesting stories to hear. Later at the Truman Museum, it was fun to see photos of different areas of the house. Free admission if you have a National Parks pass.

This was our first visit to a Presidential Library. The grounds were beautiful, the staff was friendly and helpful, and the Library exhibits were well planned and informative. I learned a lot about Harry S Truman.

This is President Harry S Truman's Independence home kept up by the Park Service (I believe) and they do tours. It is good for Truman fans but also history buffs who would be interested in seeing life during this time period because the house is left as was. This area has many historial homes and the Indepdence Square is within... More

The visitor center offers a good video overview of Bess and Harry Truman's life together. The centerpiece of any visit is touring the house where they lived their whole lives. The Park Service tour guide offered a sensitive and intimate portrait of their lives in the house during and after the presidency. This was complemented by the exhibits across the... More

Came around 11:30 on a Sunday and no tours of the house were available for 4 hours. We watched the film and looked around the center/gift shop. Then we went to the house ourselves and looked around. Nothing overly exciting but we broke in our National Parks passport book.

HST was not a rich man, and it is surprising to see how plain, yet elegant, this place is. Everything is as it was, even the car in the garage, and it reinforces how honest and down to earth he was, refusing large fees to give speeches, in contrast to the politician's today. You can easily picture how he sneaked... More
