- A BPerth, Australia246 contributionsBeautiful snorkellingBlue Lagoon beach in Padang Bai was a beautiful snorkelling spot. Crowded with boats though so watch out for them. The snorkelling is fabulous, clear water and so many fish and corals. The beach is a bit rough so we came down the stairs and entered the water from the far left hand side. Much easier that way. We went by taxi from Candidasa so left our belongings in one of the warungs at the top. Lunch was really good in the warung as well.Visited January 2024Traveled with familyWritten March 10, 2024
- Steven G22 contributionsPadangbai, BaliWe visited Bali in January 2018. It became Christmas during my midnight ride from the airport to Padangbai. First two nights we stayed at OK Divers. Excellent! Make your reservations in advance. We hired a boat to take us around to the bay at Blue Lagoon beach. We snorkeled off the boat and I hovered over a sea anemone until Nemo came out!! Colorful fish of many types would swim by in schools. This was a few years ago, but we did not see any of the floating trash near the beach that another commenter related here. The next two nights were at the Bloo Lagoon Eco Village (spelling is correct). Rustic and beautiful, and the covered but open restaurant offered an excellent view of the then active volcano across the bay.Visited May 2023Traveled with familyWritten April 26, 2024
- PaulandcelesteKingston-upon-Hull, United Kingdom34 contributionsVery good snorkelling. Pity beach was a bit dirty.Great snorkelling. Healthy coral that will last longer if people respect it by not standing on or touching it !!!! Parked our scooter at the top. Pay your 2000k to the shop as you turn in. Steps that are fairly easy to navigate down to the small beach. Nice warung close by has fair prices and sunbeds for hire on a concrete deck. Not a large beach and a shame it is not cleaned. There is a bit of rubbish around that spoils what could be a beautiful cove. A few boat trips turn up but not overly busy. Recommend water shoes. Really enjoyed it.Visited May 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten May 3, 2024

This bay is beautiful, but you have to swim through garbage to look at it. The amount of floating garbage. Minimum wage is 2 mill a month - surely this place that charges for entry and parking, as well as food and beverage ( let’s say we spent 1 mill) I’m not sure what else to say....

The Blue Lagoon Bali is the most rubbish snorkeling area I've ever been to. Literally rubbish. I just went and there was so much trash floating around. It's truly heart-breaking what's happening to our oceans.

Great place to snorkel, especially with kids. The water was clear with plenty of fish and coral. There is a restaurant on the beach that serves food and drinks, but we didn't try anything there. Parking at Blue Lagoon costs 5000 IDR for a car, and showers are 1500 IDR per person. It is easy to access via the stairs, which are located about 50 meters from the car park to the beach. However, be cautious when you enter the Padang Bai area, as the locals may approach tourists and try to charge them 5000 IDR for parking at Padang Bai. They may also tell you that you can't access Blue Lagoon via the beach and that you need to take a boat over, and then try to charge you 350,000 IDR per person, which is a rip-off. This is not true, as you can drive right to Blue Lagoon and park there.

Went for a swim and a snorkel at Blue Lagoon yesterday. It wasn’t busy at all and our expectations were high as it was a really beautiful spot to swim and snorkel when we visited a few years ago.
Upon arrival we joined most of the other tourists in picking up garbage out of the ocean. There was a lot of garbage. Sad sight. What absolutely defeats me is why I saw no locals joining in.... it is low season and combined with the corona situation it means there are very few tourists around, leaving the tourism industry with next to nothing to do. Why not clean the place up? Why not invest a bit of time in what drives the business? Show the visitors that you care about this place too?
Anyways after 20 minutes of beach and ocean cleaning we went for a snorkel. Had a good 10-15 minutes, but it ended abruptly as we came by a sunken plastic bag which appeared to be full of used nappies. Said bag was quite likely also the source of the floaters we subsequently noticed on the surface. Oof.
We’re not going back there again and I’m pretty sure we’re not the only ones. Such a shame. This place was once so beautiful. It still is from afar, but as you get closer it really disappoints!

This was such a beautiful hidden gem many years ago... But now it turned into a victim of the commercialized, mass tourism machinery. There, where was a beautiful beach until the forest, they built ugly concrete terraces with sun beds for rent with a restaurant on top. The tiny stripe of beach which is remaining is spoiled with trash. In the lagoon are 10 to 20 snorkel tour boats parking which polluting the air with carbon monoxide from running engines. The reef is almost dead, far outside there are few spreaded corals remaining, but also spoiled with trash. It's not a reef anymore as it used to be long time ago. It is a shame how a former paradise gets distroyed for a short term profit, but coming generations can not gain of it cause no tourist want to see a coral cemetry

My husband and I were driving up to B;ue Lagoon beach only to be stopped by a man throwing a ticket through the window and demanding money to be allowed to drivve past the bay. When we said no he became threatening and two more or less forced us backwards out of the area. I have now read other reviews of how this has changed. There are so many wonderful places to see I would give this a miss.

I have snorkelled numerous places in Bali and this is not a good place to snorkel. My husband and I spent our snorkel time collecting rubbish from the water. I have never seen so much garbage in the water anywhere in Bali. Maybe at one time it nice but now, I think it is advertised as great snorkeling to pull people to the area. I would not recommend snorkeling or diving here.

Parked our scooter at the top. Pay your 2000k to the shop as you turn in.
Steps that are fairly easy to navigate down to the small beach.
Nice warung close by has fair prices and sunbeds for hire on a concrete deck.

Hi all
Just a few questions as spending day in Padang bai and maybe candi dasa.
If we walk to blue lagoon beach can we hire from beach the fins to snorkel? Is currents ok for children please? Also what else is recommended in these areas after or before snorkeling as we have car ? Thanks so much 😊
Written January 9, 2023

Seen a lot of photos with fish and coral all beautiful and nice blue clear water, is it really like this? How far out is the boat ride before they like you snorkel?
Written November 12, 2018
If you are at the blue lagoon beach, the water is like that & you see fish as soon as you enter the water. Swimming a few metres out, you see loads of fish.
You do not need to get a boat from padang bai. From padang bai, it's a 10 min walk (albeit uphill) to the beach.
The boats at padang bai charge a stupid amount to basically take you round the corner. Not worth it imo.

How much is a cab ride from Kuta? Also, can you snorkel directly off the beach or do you have to hire a boat?

I paid about IDR 300,000 by Uber.. There was small place had 2 cafe. range about 50 m? I think there was no boat and the snorkel equipment can borrow at the cafe. There was good beach, but want to visit only there, that's not recommand. we visit there on our way to Gili island.

hi castlerune, im sorry bit late to reply . by cab from kuta you will pay around 300 rupiah but more cheap if you using a grab or online taxi just around 175 rupiah.
you can snorkel or just walk to find that place no need to hire the boat. only if you want to diving so you need to hire boat around there.
I hope that can help you.

How do you get there from Kuta?
Written February 3, 2017
We rented scooters for less than £50 for 10 days and travelled around Bali but you could bargain with a cab driver or they do regular transport spots from kuta
