We stayed and dived with BRD in October 2017 for 11 days.
BRD is located in the village of Laha on the edge of the water. The house has 2 bedrooms, shower and communal lounge and balcony upstairs. Downstairs a reception area. More bedrooms, kitchen and toilet/shower. Outside is a veranda with space to eat, wash tubs and dive preparation area/compressor. Stairs leed down to the water. The accommodation is clean and comfortable with all rooms air conditioned. Stevi looks after the guests and house and does an excellent job. Starting each morning with a cooked breakfast and making sure we had plenty to eat at lunch time. Dinner is not included however there are a couple of places nearby to eat at night.
BRD is a well run dive operation. The dive team load the boats with your gear and cameras. There are 2 dive boats which enable them to cater for at least 12 divers at any time. Whilst we were there a brand new stock of dive gear arrived which is available for hire. Dive guides have excellent knowledge of the area and we can highly recommend Benny who certainly knew the area well.
The dive sites are located along the shore of Laha with lots more across the bay. This is essentially a muck diving destination and popular with photographers. There is an abundant population of ghost pipe fish along with frog fish, Rhinopias, Harlequin and Tiger shrimps, nudibranch just to name a few.
So if you are looking for an alternative more affordable option then we can recommend this dive resort.
Hope to see you again, Ann & Kevin

This review concerns both the accommodation (rooms, other facilities, and food) and dives. We stayed with Ambon Blue Rose for six nights and dived with them three times for four days.
The staff, in particular the hardworking Riki, were very good. Well, Riki is exceptional and goes above and beyond to make you feel comfortable in spite of very, very limited resources! (Riki is not a dive guide but takes care of the tanks, cleans the area, shops for the kitchen, and does lots of other work.) I do not think we ever saw Riki rest. At night he would even fish so that some more food would be available for next day's lunch! He himself deserves a five-star review.
The dive guides were OK but we wish they warned divers who behaved irresponsibly. Also, unfortunately, for some reason, whenever we asked for a night dive, the staff rejected it. The sea life, if you are into macro stuff and photography, is exceptionally good.
The price of the lodging is very competitive compared to the other places in Ambon. However, the rooms are dirty. Showers and toilets are in especially bad condition.
Food was not of great quality and no options for vegetarians. For almost every meal we had the same type of food. We felt that the cook and the other staff really did try their best, but the ingredients they had at their disposal were lacking. We rarely saw fresh vegetable and fruit, which is such a shame in a tropical country like Indonesia, with an abundance of fruit and veggies available at the local markets.

On our fist dive oud diveguide made no breefing, just went down and becouse my buddy was a little bit slower (a biginner) during 10seconds they disappeared and did not take care of us. I work also as a guide and diving instructor and i could not start the dive without checking that everybody is Ok and following me. We looked for them couple of minutes, than we went up not nobody there and also the boat was far and did not come for us. So we continued to lookf for them agan, we found the guide with another 2 cleints afther 30min. When my buddy had 60bar we started to go up but this time the guide did not take of the other 2 clients and left them alone. One of them came up with 10bar!!
Afther this experience we canceled our diving with this diving center and went to Critterjunkis - cca 200m from this shop. We got there much better service....

Came here as a walk-in customer. Things were quite OK, but this place is definitely not for non-smoker. Everywhere you go, be it the boat, the lounge area, the office, the equipment room, there's a bunch of smoking staff and guests and the non-existence of designated smoke-free area really lowers the experience. When the owner was informed of this, he waved his hand and said to just stay in the room. Quite disappointing to have no right to breathe normal air except my own room. I had to escape to other corners everytime someone lit a cigarette. Furthermore, I can vouch what the previous reviewer said, there was no briefing, buddy check, nothing. When other customers harassed the fish and other critters (by poking them repeatedly and unnecessarily) no one bat an eyelid. I personally think it's the sole responsibility of the guide not to allow anyone to do such things. Finally, just before the first night dive, I surprisingly couldn't descend, stuck at 1.8 m. I signaled the guide with the torch but the dive guide didn't notice and proceeded like usual, looking for critters. So I surfaced again, the boat was already far away, had to shout and signaled with the torch until someone realized it. It took some time until the dive guide realized that I was left behind and came up to get me. After getting extra weight, the dive went uneventful.
The plus side: was given rental fee discount of only one day's charge for 1.5 day use. Staff are generally friendly and helpful and knowledgeable of local dive sites. Room is basic and clean but price-value ratio shouldn't be compared to anything in other more-developed areas in Indonesia.

What a great experience this dive week was with Blue Rose Divers. amazing people doing an excellent job. They love diving and want to show you all the critters in Ambon. Very professional from A to Z. The dive shop is a big house right on the shore made for divers. Warm and cold showers, enough place for the equipment and the camera gear. Rooms are simple and clean. The food is delicious. Can highly recommend this place and look forward to dive with them again.

I've been to Ambon last month and while researching i couldn't find much info on Blue Rose Divers but deceided to go with them anyway, mainly for the cost and they have a bigger boat then Blue Motion Divers.
I'm very happy with that decision , i did 23 dives with BRD.
Two morning dives and a nightdive each day , after the second dive there was a simple lunch provided , rice with chicken , fish etc. After that i changed batteries , downloaded images and had a nap prior to the nightdive.
I rented a extra room at BRD but stayed at Grecia guesthouse wich is a 5 minute ride on a motobike away .
Diveboats are big , suiting up on board is not a issue , they don't have nitrox or bigger tanks , and i didn't look at the rental equipment.
Reason for staying at Grecia is to get away from the diveshop for some time , Laha were the shop is is very quiet and BRD is not a resort.
Big advantage for me was that there are not many people diving with them so we had max. 3 divers on board.
Dived mostly on the side from BRD , Laha etc but since there were a couple of Rhinopia's on the other side of the bay so we crossed the bay also for two days diving , at a extra cost for the fuel.
They use a bigger boat for these dives and i liked that side better , seen some nice rinopias , boxer crabs with eggs , pipefish with eggs and a mantis schrimp with eggs , theres a pattern in there..
Since my buddy for these dives was videoing and i'm taking pics we hired a extra guide for these dives .
The guide from DRD got sick during one of these days and they managed to get a female guide to help us out ,
i was very impressed with the effort they put in to provide a good experience for us.
So i will go back to Ambon and i would be using Blue Rose Divers again its good value for money , good guides and very rich in critters , just realise its not a luxery resort.
I was surprised at the number of harlequin shrimps , boxer crabs and surprisingly at one dive we came across a big school of blue-spotted rays , min 100 or so.

I stayed one night at bluerose divers, didn't dive because at the time there were no other tourists but saw the equipment and talked to the staff. They have good material properly maintained, knowledgeable, helpful and friendly staff. They even helped me find spare parts when I broke my snorkel even if I didn't dive. So I think it is a very recommendable place. I don't recommend to stay in their rooms because it is very dirty, they should hire a cleaning lady rather than have the current staff do it and let them rather focus on logistics and diving. It is well situated in Laha where you have plenty of muck dive sites to see and their prices are very competitive.
