    Vivekeanda Rock is deeply spiritual
I was visiting Trivandrum and was in two minds about making the trip to Kanyakumari. I was glad I did. I hired a car and driver. The cost was no greater than the package day tours but with much more flexibility. We got to Kanyakumari abut 3pm. No queue for the 3.30pm boat to Vikevenanda Rock. Got into the spirit of the place. A special place for Hindus and the great Vikevenanda. Next morning watched the sunrise from the viewing tower. I have done this in many places. Here it is very powerful and very spiritual. I stayed at the Sparsa hotel which was not a bad choice, walkable to the sunrise Point but if I went again I would stay at the Tamil Nadu Hotel. Set in grounds it has an historic wing called the Cape Block. It is a somewhat shabby hotel but it would be my pick. Returning to Trivandrum the next day I visited the Padmanabhapuram Palace which I highly recommend.

Spend some time at the meditation hall
We took a ferry to the Vivikananda Rock. The regular ferry ride at the very long line is Rs. 75 both way, however the VIP tickets are available for Rs. 300. The place is nicely maintained and really lovely. After the walking around the rock, we went to the meditation hall and meditated for the 20+ minutes. The energy of the hall is amazing. There no VIP line for the return ride, however the boats coming one after another. Needless to say that we were only one farangs there. People took a lots of pictures of us like we were taking the pictures of monkeys. The 41-metre-tall(133 ft) stone sculpture of the Tamil poet and philosopher Valluvar, known as Thiruvallur is under construction.

    A very Calming experience
Visited this place as part of our trip to Kanyakumari. There was a calming charm in the place right from the time we landed there from the boat. The views of the seas are beautiful from here as are the views of the sangam ghats. The place is very clean aside from some plastic bottles that some people had thrown near the entrance. Worth a visit

A Unique symbol of unity and purity
Kanyakumari is a special destination in many different ways. When we think about Southernmost tip of the India, we remember Kanyakumari and at the same time when we think about Kanyakumari, we remember Vivekananda Rock. Vivekananda Rock is the most visited and Most crowded place of Kanyakumari. Vivekananda Rock memorial was built as a mark of respect to the legendary Swami Vivekananda and Inaugurated by then the President of India Shri V.V.Giri on 02-Sep-1970. We have visited Kanyakumari during last week of December 2023 and this is third time I visited and in all the three times I was excited to visit Vivekananda Rock as this is so natural and beautiful location of Sothern tip. This is located in Southern tip of the Country on small island which is inside the Ocean where all three oceans meet at one place. Interesting Facts about Vivekananda Rock: 1. Located at such a Unique location that to on small Island inside Ocean where the Bay of Bengal, the Arabian Sea, and the Indian Ocean converge. 2. This is the spot where the great Indian spiritual leader Swami Vivekananda meditated and attained enlightenment in 1892. 3. Vivekananda Rock memorial is built on the top of one rock which is adjacent to another rock on which Thiruvalluvar Statue is installed. 4. The Vivekananda Rock Memorial houses two main structures namely Vivekananda Mandapam and Shripada Mandapam. 5. Vivekananda attained enlightenment at this place while sitting on rock and meditating. We went early at 9am to the boat jetty on a Saturday. It was crowded even though our ferry trip would have been the first few of the day. There is a Rs 200 ticket and a Rs 50 ticket per head queue while going to the memorial. However for the ferry, while coming back to the jetty, it is on a first come first serve basis from the memorial. The ferry is not maintained and the life jacket to wear is a joke. Many of them were not in working condition and the organizers are not bothered about safety.
The queue is claustrophobic and it was not a good experience. The memorial was lovely but the experience to go there and come back was horrible. If possible please go during a week day and not on a public holiday.

It was a horrifying experience. We went on public holiday and I recommend people not go there on peak days. It was really hot that day. We waited for 3 hours in heat queue(~1km) and then got on the ferry. Coming back from island was also a pain as there were no shades and we had to queue for 1hr. Trust me I am from Odisha's Angul where there are a lot of mines and temp can go 42C+ on peak summers, so when I say it was very unmanageable hot in that area, in Septemeber, I mean it.
1- dont go in peak days.
2-dont go on hot days.

Though the view from island was good, not the very best, but good.

As you reach the boat queue, it looks good with a single queue. But while approaching the boat, they ask men and women to go in separate lines and enter boat for different entries. Inside again families can reunite - Ridiculous!

They collect Rs75 for to and fro boat ticket and once you reach the rock memorial, you need to buy another entry ticket. Every single person who comes by boat has to buy another entry ticket. Why not they combine the tickets and sell in one point? No point in standing in queues two times for a single trip.

As you enter the rock memorial, they want you to remove your shoes and go barefooted. During day time (boat service is only till 4pm), it’s so hot and why do they expect us to walk on the rock with barefoot - only the authorities will know the answer.

Boats are very old, poorly maintained.

Kanyakumari is projected as a global tourist destination and we need to update ourselves to global standards. Currently it’s not up to the mark for even a local traveler.

The Vivekananda Rock Memorial is a fitting tribute to the Swamiji who awakened the soul of India. The ferry ride to the memorial was a bit rough, but worth it. The calmness one fells once inside the hall needs to be experienced first hand. Goddess Parvati’s footprint is another must visit in the complex. The views of the 3 seas/oceans are amazing.

Tamil Nadu was on entire lockdown on weekends and weekdays they don't allow visit to tourist sites. Also this season it's crowded with Ayyappa devotees and they are a huge crowd. The entire place is in a mess. The beach road could have been maintained in a better way. people still defeacate in open and al the grass lands nearby are stinky and cannot go there .

Have visited Vivekananda rock memorial many times. Ferry service runs from 8 am to 4 PM and normally the waiting time for ferry is 1 to 2 hours. We bought special ticket for ferry which was introduced recently and is sold for 200 rs against normal rate of 50 rs. There was no waiting time for special ticket. The place is usually crowded and ferry service to thiruvalluvar statue nearby the vivekananda rock was suspended the day we visited due to high tides. The atmosphere in vivekananda rock memorial was great. There was absolutely pin drop silence in the meditation hall. It is a good place for photography with great view of sea and church in shore.

This is the place where Swami Vivekanand did meditation and attained enlightenment. It is also said that on the same rock devi Kanyakumari (Goddess Parvati) did tapasya for Lord Shiv. Her footprints are still there on this rock. You have to visit this rock with bare foot so it will be hard to walk on the rock as it is very hot during the day time. A white paint lines are there on the floor try to walk on them. To reach the Vivekananda Rock Memorial, you need to take a ferry from Kanyakumari. I would suggest to take this ferry in the early morning otherwise it will be crowed. Once you will be in ferry it will take hardly 10 minutes to reach the rock. You can spend around one hour over there on the rock and can come back with the same ferry. Along with Rock Memorial there is another rock where they have statue of Thiruvalluvar. It remain closed during the low tied, if it will be open then after rock memorial you can go to visit this statue with the same ferry.

No detailed descriptions or quotes from Swamiji’s writings.
Ferry to get there too crowded and charges for expedited entry (but not for return trip) exhorbitant.
Photography inside memorial prohibited.
Shoes not allowed inside and floor too hot to walk; white reflective paint helps but too many bare spots as it is not well maintained.
