- Laura C3 contributionsExcellentWe ate the best cooked crab of our lives at this market! We also ate in restaurants in Kep but the cooked crab from the market was the best... go there with your eyes closed at the end of the morning. With the current price, we paid 8 dollars per kilo of crabs + 2 dollars to cook it (with Kampot green pepper) and it was perfect for two.Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 13, 2024

The supply of seafood is logically good, but the air and stench under the tarpaulins are almost unbearable. That's why I didn't eat there.Visited November 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten November 12, 2024

It's pretty relaxed, but it can be quite hot. There are also a lot of stalls where they sell fried or grilled seafood to take away to enjoy at one the many tables where they sell drinks. I would surely go there again, it was fun.Visited November 2024Traveled soloWritten November 14, 2024

After 3 weeks in Phnom Penh, I needed a break and wanted to go to the coast. This
crab market was interesting at 6:30 in the morning. Watched the fisherman walk out to retrieve their cages then back at the dock, they go through a manual sorting process. Locals come to buy them in quantity. I had a delicious crab cake at Le Strand restaurant in Kep. My private driver drove me from PP. He is the best. Taxi Tom is a safe driver which is of utmost importance in Cambodia. Hire him: taxi.tom341@gmail.com

It's nice to see what happens in the daily life of a local here, and the market is one of the best ways to immerse yourself into this.
I personally would not recommend eating here. Perhaps if you get there very early (6am) then it would be fine, but I arrived at 8:30am and everything was covered in flies and didn't look too appetising.
I know some locals here, and they make a very good point - unfortunately due to over-fishing here the crabs are getting smaller and smaller. Apparently a few years ago the crabs were over twice the size, and it seems from the ones they have caught and are selling they have no filtering system to release the smaller ones back into the ocean. This is just something to be aware of when making purchases.

If this is the culinary high light of the coast it is more than disappointing. All the restaurants look dirty and very unhygienic. The whole market gives the impression of a garbage dump. And the crabs, the highlight of the market, are everywhere so small that in most countries they would not be allowed to be caught. If you like seafood definitely no need to here

Don't waste your time buying seafood from the vendors on the beach at Kep. Go straight to the source. The Kep Crab Market. Great value and fascinating place to walk around. Best for me were grilled squid, little crunchy crabs, sweets in banana leaves. Easily the best place to be in Kep

I found it fascinating wandering around he market seeing all the many different types of shell fish. The atmosphere is lively and the stallholders are friendly. It is a very good place to buy fresh seafood if you have the facilities to cook it whilst travelling around Cambodia.

This place puts you way out of your comfort zone. Great fun, you really don't know if you are getting a bargin or getting ripped off. We bought 500g of large prawns and the same of large crabs. They cook them, we chose a pepper sauce that was so delicious. Would go back tomorrow if I could.

The crab market was a bit disappointing, the food is not great, neither the people specially nicest. The place is crowded with tourists and is very dirty! To eat there you will seat in the middle of the confusion and the grill smoke!!

This place is so unbelievably overrated. On arriving at the Kep market you will be see a row of rundown smelly shacks, at each one you are presented with exactly the same menu with exactly the same overpriced seafood dishes.
Buy a crab meal here and you will be given 5 small crabs on plate, that contain less crab meat than you will found in a standard tin of crabs at the local supermarket !!!. Seriously I am not kidding. Maybe there should be more quality control here, where all the small crabs should be thrown back in the sea.
Finally there is a large sewage pipe that ends right next to the shacks. Now if you look on the internet to see what crabs eat. - well you get my meaning, right ? If you want a decent meal don't waste your time visiting this place.
