Here are some photos of the new smooth concrete path. Very easy to walk, cycle on. Possible to ride a moto up the path too. Adult tourists $1 entrance fee, paid to the guard near Sunset Cafe. Concrete stretch of the path is 6km long.

My experience visiting Kep National Park was an amazing experience. The park is a place of relaxation and tranquility. I was able to see some of the most beautiful views in the world. There are plenty of activities you can do at the park. I would recommend this place for people who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

If you have a few hours free in the morning, this is an easy walk of about 1 1/2 hours on a paved but mostly empty road. You pays $1 per person on entry. Halfway though there is a 12 meter high tower. Don’t expect a jungle experience but we did see monkeys. A nice walk if you have some free time

There is a cool double track through dense jungle which circumnavigates the park. There are some paved sections on the route as well. There don’t seem to be many visible animals. It’s lovely to get away from the bustle of Cambodia and surround yourself in trees. Please consider hiking rather than riding a motorcycle to enhance the experience of others.

We did the outer loop of the park. We entered just above our accommodation at Raingsey Bungalow. US$1 entrance fee. Easy walk doing the outer rim. Highly recommended.

Kep National Park nestles on the hill side behind Kep and forms the back drop to the town of Kep. It is heavily forested but don’t be put off by this because there are a series of good walking trails that can be followed. The trails vary between an easy broad track which circles the park, right through to several smaller narrow tracks that will take you to areas of the park a lot less visited. We particularly liked the so called “stairway to heaven” which eventually led to the sunset rock with spectacular views over two bays and out to sea. The park is shown on several local maps but we found a hand drawn map showing the trails most useful. Even more useful were our hosts Andy and Linda at Casa Kep, very close to the park, who knew the trails very well and gave great directions.

I spent a nice morning walking through this park. The shade of the trees gave a welcome break from the heat.
It was pleasant enough with some nice views in places but there’s not a huge amount to see. One monkey and few millipedes a large spider and a handful of butterflies

I went hiking alone at 7am after I heard it was the best time for cool shade. The basic 8km route around the edge is easy and shaded, fairly easy to follow a map but do take one.
I then tried to go into the winding jungle path to find all the highlights mentioned on my map, and it was not easy. There is no signage in the jungle and the path is incredibly overgrown, only thing to follow is yellow paint on the odd branch (thanks to the guys at Led Zep Cafe).
Very very steep climbs- I am a fit 22 year old and I was exhausted and dripping in sweat, almost vertical climbs through the rocky, overgrown ‘path’.
Made it to sunset rock which was a great view but most other viewpoints are actually obscured. I’d say the jungle hike points of interest aren’t worth the challenge unless you really love to sweat and climb.
Also I saw two snakes up close, one rather large, so be careful!
The general trail around the edge is very easy and pleasant, so would definitely recommend!

Been coming to Kep for 8 years but ashamed to say never walked the park until these last couple of days. Start early if you're on foot: it's 8k if you do the whole circuit and gets hot on the sun-up side very quickly. If you want a cooler, more jungly bit go up the entrance just above veranda resort. It's 1.5 k up to the kampot lookout for spectacular views, fresh air, squirrels, butterflies and birdlife. Go a bit further, about 500m, to the summit, and a bit further still to see the most beautiful ancient fig tree. Marvellous. You might also see some macaques, giant millipedes and other wildlife. Don't need to be superfit, though there are some other trails if you like something more challenging. Led Zep Cafe wasn't open yet (10am) but if they had been I would have gone in and kissed the owners: they have been keeping the trails clean and clear, with excellent way markers and information, and beauty spots to take in the wonderful views. And they look after the Kep Squirrel Association. Good work Led Zep Cafe for leading the conservation effort. A lovely spot away from the hustle and heat of Phnom Penh, and must do in Kep.

For hiking and cycling, which of the two Parks we have to choose: Bokor National Park or Kep National Park? THANKS
Written July 6, 2015
I suggest Kep. It is well signed and has good trails for hiking or cycling, with lots of birds, butterflies, some monkeys, etc.
Bokor was not so well signed. We found a footpath at the end of the tarmac road, past the waterfall. It was marked with buddhist flags and seemed good to start but gradually got narrower and less clear, so we turned back. Maybe there are other trails that are better signed though. But nobody could provide a map and the park suffers from development so wildlife is much further in.
I think Kep is better geared up for tourism. I would be worried about getting lost in Bokor. It is still worth going up the hill for the views and the hill station buildings, but I think Kep is definitely better for exploring the park.

One visit of the Park is enough,or can we envisage a second visit? THANKS.
Written July 4, 2015
We only made one trip into the park but did not see all that it had to offer. The views over the coastal plains & out to the ocean are spectacular & the track is well marked and an easy walk. If you decide to take one of the traverse tracks (as we did), be prepared for a steep, sometimes tricky, climb off the beaten track. It was a bit adventurous, but well marked.
We met some very experienced bird watchers at an excellent viewing platform who were impressed with the birds they had discovered too.
We were there in the dry season, so any semblance of waterfall did not exist, but it may be quite different for you.
It all depends what you like to do, but I you could circumnavigate in a day & go back the next day again just fun.
Either way, enjoy....

Is it possible to get to the Butterfly Farm from the Park? THANKS.
Written June 26, 2015
We did not visit the Butterfly farm when we were in Kep National Park, but looking over the map that our hotel (Verandah Natural Resort), gave us before we went off to explore the park I can see a reference to the Butterfly farm. So I would have to say that it would be accessible, but the park is big so I would ask a local which would be the quickest route when you are there.
Have a great trip, I'm sure you will enjoy yourself.

Is there any restroom in the Park? THANKS.
Written June 24, 2015
I saw no 'official' toilet facilities, but there are a lot of trees........& you can always find a private moment - if you are comfortable communing with nature.

What are the opening hours of the Park, and is it open every day? THANKS.

Is it possible to visit the park with a guide? Thanks.
Written June 19, 2015
The paths in the park are really well marked with yellow signs at every junction giving distance and approximate walking times. So I just did it by myself and so I don't know if there are official guides.
The Squirrel Association put up the signs and I think they are based at the Led Zeppelin Cafe which is on the left on the main road into the park, a short way after you enter (the cafe is marked on the yellow signs too). I expect they could give you lots of info if you go there or contact them somehow.
I can also recommend Mr Thy at the Ocean Mart, next to where the buses stop opposite Kep beach. He is very helpful and trustworthy for booking transport, trips, tours, guides, etc. He may be able to help you arrange something.
Hope this helps.
