- relakuma210Paris, France496 contributionsParadise! We arrive by boat (25€ À/R) on a sandy beach with coconut trees and full of other beautiful fruit trees. Several nice bar and restaurant with smiling welcome as everywhere in Cambodia. Around the island is not possible on foot but at least 3/4 and it is worth it between beaches and jungle. Finish with a little massage (10/15$), they are not pros but it is still very nice. The return to sunset is magical. Unfortunately, you will not escape the horrible pollutionVisited December 2024Traveled soloWritten December 10, 2024

- kersten2709188 contributionsUnfortunately, we have read a lot of negative reviews about the island which we cannot confirm. The island is clean and not as full of garbage as some travelers have portrayed. You can eat, drink, walk and swim on the island. It is worth a visit, especially the boat trip is interesting.Visited November 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten November 4, 2024
- Mortilondon3 contributionsThis place was very pretty and had a nice range of food options. Very nice place to chill for the day and paddle in the sea. Don't do the snorkeling though. It is not a snorkeling location. They advertise it, but it is not done well at all. Nothing to see as the water is too murky. The equipment was just goggles which you had to buy.Visited December 2024Traveled with familyWritten January 9, 2025

This was a good day trip if you have a spare day in Kep. The boat trip was fun, landed on what seems to be the only beach on Koh Tonsay, which is lined with beach bungalows and beach cafes.
Food was average, drinks fairly cheap at $0.75 a can where we were and cocktails for $2-3. I had a lovely massage listening to the sea.
The beach was cleanish for Cambodia but off the beach was full of rubbish. The pier and the island is being developed right now and although diggers were on the pier, we weren't disturbed by any noise.
It was fine for a day trip but we're glad we didn't decide to stay longer.

We did enjoy the journey to and from the island and did enjoy sitting on the beach however, this is described as an idyllic island but upon arrival the beach was littered with rubbish but move down the beach and it’s not so bad. During our stay young people playing in the sea were retrieving broken bottles from the sea. So be aware.
However it was a nice place to spend a few hours and the local families were very friendly, the food good and very reasonably priced. Beer was $1 for can. Some seats were free whilst others were $2 dollars unless you ate at a specific restaurant.
Toilets were basic. Take your own tissues and hand sanitiser.

Koh Tonsay or Rabbit Island is approx 30 min boat ride away. To buy tickets is a little chaotic and a form to complete, with name, dob, passport number etc. Some people didn't have or know there passport number so we're advised to put any number on the form. Again not sure why as no one checks you on the boats or checks you come back.
The ride over was great and you land on the main beach, that has some beach bars that sell food and drinks at very reasonable prices a d offer free sun beds on the beach or hammocks in a shaded ataps just behind the beds in the trees. The island is relaxed and has many little sandy coves. Weekends many local families pop over and picnic on some of the beaches away from the main beach. On the other side of the island a film crew were making a film with full native makeup. A very good day trip.

We traveled by longboat from Kep to Rabbit Island, $25 for the whole boat. The beach and water were nice. There was a restaurant beside the massage stand that served whole red snapper for $10 that was amazing. Home fries as well that were very good. We did walk to the other side of the island but the beach there was very badly littered.

first of all, no any rabbits to see on this island. beach was ok and perfect compared to the kep beach were visibility was bad. Longtail boats are used to get there and they are charged a bit expensive (25 USD for 2 way for whole boat, but you can share with others if you are willing to). You need to book your return (if the time you want is available of course) before you depart to go there and also you need to pay the 25 usd in advanced. On weekends (we went on a Saturday) there are a lot of locals that put their own music and take their grills and do bbq (very friendly and they offered us drinks and food to try).

We almost skipped it based on reviews that made it sound like a garbage dump with palm trees. In hindsight, I wish we had saved more time to spend there. Despite the usual trash you find in developing (and often in developed) countries, it was still a very pleasant excursion. My biggest complaint was that even when booking the $25 private boat, you still need to lock in a return time when you buy the ticket. I get that the boat needs to make other runs, but I wish there was a way to have a little more flexibility. And as others have mentioned, be ready to get wet when you transfer from the boat to the island, as it leaves you in a foot or two of water.

Relaxing day trip. Relatively clean of rubbish by local standards. Free hammocks and wooden beach recliners if you purchase a drink or lunch at the corresponding shop or restaurant. Local prices. Had a great massage for $8. Ferry over involves milling around at the end of the jetty then showing your ticket to the local guy in charge who will randomly assign you a boat. Confusing and disorganised so go with the flow. Rocking and wet trip back to mainland.

Healing on a quiet, undisturbed beach
It resets your body and mind from the stress of city life.

I wasn't impressed. Maybe I just went at the wrong time, but it's nowhere near the picturesque place I saw in photos. It was windy, the boat was rocking wildly both ways, the water was dirty. The only consolation was the place where I lounged - the family who runs it is very nice. Both husband and wife did their best to make my day as pleasant as possible. The food at their restaurant was far better than I expected, and reasonably priced. A note: July is a chancy month because it's part of the rainy season.

A lovely place to a day trip. Can hire a boat for $25 for 6 people. The island has a series of small bungalows with a cafe attached. Shrimp with kampot pepper highly recommended. Sadly the far side of the island is being developed and already you can see nature being replaced by horrible construction,

Yes, the shoreline has lovely old wide shaded trees all along it, many in front of the few cafes and restaurants or lodges, perfect for shaded lunches or just enjoying the view down the beach

Has anyone camped on Rabbit Island? Is it free to do, costs money, or prohibited?
Written November 20, 2018
YOu can rent a bungalow for around 8 to 10 USD a night. Careful there is no electricity there except a gen set running few hours after sunset. Not sure about Camping but you could choose to sleep on the beach if you are really into mosquitoes.

Book a boat there are lots. You will probably have to pre pay which will include mini bus pick up and drop off.
Make sure you get the boat number and boat drivers phone number before you get off the boat. You do not want to be stranded on the island overnight if your boat didn’t turn up for the pick up, normally 4pm.
We were lucky, another boat accepted us for the return journey.

Hello!
Does someone have some e-mailadresses (our websites) from people who rent a bungalow on Rabbit Island?
Written February 18, 2018
This might be a stupid question, but is there rabbits on Rabbit Island? Or is it just called Rabbit Island?

There are no rabbits. It is called rabbit island because of the shape of the island :)
