Kampot is a small and somewhat remote city in Cambodia, and, as such, some services are limited. While the city contains at least two old theaters, they have long sat unused and show signs of wear-and-tear from the elements and the wars that ravaged Cambodia in the 1970s and 80s.

Ecran is the first proper movie house to operate in Kampot for decades, and it is a pleasant surprise in this often low-tech community.

Located near the river, the small shophouse that is now Ecran bears little resemblance to the typical, often-decaying shophouses in the area. The theater space proper, while small, feels like a much larger space, and offers a moviegoing experience that is remarkably close to large, corporate theaters, with enough flavor to make it distinctly Kampot.

The movie theater itself is soundproofed and outfitted with an excellent soundsystem. It is appropriately dark and black, making it easy to lose yourself in a film. The screen is massive by Kampot standards, and in the context of the theater space, it works fantastically. The projection at the film I attended worked without a hitch, providing a clear, bright picture.

You get the added Kampot-bonus of reclining in comfy, cushioned chairs, or lounging on a cushioned platform in the back of the room, all while enjoying one of Cambodia's local beverages at very reasonable prices.

As a Kampot resident, I can attest that Ecran offers a very welcome service to the community, and does so with style. Tourists looking for a little escapism from the Kingdom of Wonders will find a trip to Ecran a good way to relax. And last and least are the ticket prices - at $2.50 standard, a bargain for this quality. Highly recommended.

It’s cool and comfortable, so much space you can lay down or role. I like the small movie room with 52’TV; I could choose almost 1000 movies. I watched a few movies in 4m screen too; love the sound and projection quality. If you are in Kampot, this is one of the best experiences. Enjoy your evening with popcorn and your favorite movie!

We booked a private room to watch a movie in the mid afternoon in May, and it was perfect. The air-con was really good, there was a decent selection of movies, and there were no issues with the movie. The screen was big, sound was good.
The room itself was a touch grubby, and it smelled a bit of stale smoke, but all in all it's a great concept and really affordable. Would definitely recommend it if you're in town for the blistering highs of summer!

My boyfriend and I went here expecting (from the pictures) it to be a sweet little cushioned place all cosy and welcoming.

There are a huge range of films which I was impressed with, and they do sweets and drinks for reasonable prices.

The room we went to (a little private one) was a bit like, that friend you always have where you are invited in and cautiously sit on the edge of the sofa because it's a little bit untidy/unclean. The bed was comfortable, but there was a smell of stale cigarette smoke, and the bed just looked like someone might have just slept in it.

Also, if you choose a filmed that is over 2 hours you have to pay extra.
Having said that the movie and sound quality is quite good.

So pros and cons equally, hence my rating

After travelling for a few months my friend and I loved the idea of just chilling out and watching movies in an air conditioned space! We paid $3 for a private room, air con worked great and the huge beds/cushions was so comfy! The massive TV and surround sound system was awesome! It was so cheap and easy so we came here twice. There's something for everyone with over 1000 movies to choose from, some old some brand knew. You can even choose a smoking or non smoking room! Definitely an easy way to kill a few hours and relax!

We went for one of the public screenings and paid $2.50, a steal if you ask me. A decent sized theater with comfortable big cushion lounge seats. The temperature wasn't too cold, just right. There was even a water jug where you can refill your water bottles for free. Wish we had time to try to the personal theaters.

After running out of steam doing stuff in the heat, Ecran was the best way to spend a few hours in airconditioning. The public screening room is comfy and has a range of comfy seating to watch the movie on offer for the day on the big screen (excellent picture quality, sound etc). The private rooms are also really comfy (Sunday is 20% off). You can also take food in there as well. Definitely recommended.

The main movie room shows a couple movies a day at $2.50/person and has an assortment of patio furniture and beds in an ac room; DIY punk vibe here which I like...you can also order noodles and dumplings freshly made from downstairs. Private rooms with a 51"TV can be rented for $7 per movie with a large catalogue you choose from. If u have 2 or more people watching this is a cheap and fun option.

If you've got time to relax Ecran Movie House is great, book a private room pick your movie and relax on their huge beds. Don't forget the dumpling's afterwards $2 for 12 plus 50 cent beer. If you come at the right time you can watch them make spaghetti.

Best dumplings and noodle soup I have ever had. Cheap, handmade and delicious, we loved this place so much we came back for lunch twice during our stay.
We also bought tickets to a public movie screening on Saturday night. After a while on the road, it was so refreshing just going to see a movie. The room is set up just like a cinema, you can order dumplings or noodles from the noodle house below, lie back in the air conditioning and relax. Fabulous. A shame there aren't more movie cinemas like it- small, intimate and relaxing.
We have been raving about this place ever since we left.
