!Khwattu is an extraordinary place with an exceptional team. I spent two nights at the Bush Lodge, and all I can say is that the service is very professional, and the guides are very enthusiastic, proud and extremely well prepared. If you want to spend a weekend away, enjoy some culture and relaxation I can not think of a better place. The numerous affordable activities will keep you busy as well as the well-organised museum. The place shows impeccable management and organization! I have been very well looked after, and I really recommend it.

We were desperate to get away for the Easter weekend, and booked a night to stay at !Khwa ttu. On a budget it was great value - clean organised tent with an absolutely delightful breakfast in the morning with warm greetings and friendly smiles. While I understand it was a long weekend and people were having fun the neighbouring Bush Camp was incredibly loud until early hours of the morning. There's no one in the camp after hours to keep a tight lid on things which is a pity because it does influence your level of relaxation. Other than that people complain about road noise but quite honestly it's minimal - and again for the value it's not an issue to us! Boma was great, outdoor shower was THE BEST THING EVER under the stars. Loved our stay - we learnt so much about The San people at the museum. Great surprising getaway.

We took a tea-tasting tour with guide Nunke and a tracking tour with guide Kerson. Both super-friendly, mixing personal stories of their youth and their families with the broader knowledge. I was particularly impressed with Kerson - not only about how he spotted and recognised tracks where I wouldn't have seen anything - but also for the care that he treated us with (giving us blankets to be warm in the rain!) and his mix of storytelling with explanations. He even went to research something about a plant in response to a question I'd asked, and came to bring me the response the next day!

We stayed in Bush Lodge No. 3 which is a large canvas tent and an attached bathroom with toilet and shower. The tent is tucked away in the bush but the sound of the R27 is very apparent. Bush Lodge No. 3 is also right next to the communal area and if a festive group of guests gets neck deep into a few six packs then you could be in for a long night. Fortunately didn't happen to us though. They rely a lot on gas for both the fridge and the shower. We gave up trying to figure out if the fridge worked and settled on using our cooler box with strictly controlled rotations of ice packs. A tip for the shower is always listen to make sure the gas is burning and if you hear it turn of you have exactly 3.4 seconds to remove yourself from the soon to be ice cold stream of water. You'll have to turn off the water, wait a little, then turn back on to get the gas going again. The booking came as a bed and breakfast which you have in the restaurant across the road and up the hill. The breakfast is great, sustains you until lunch and makes the whole experience good value for money! We will definitely be back but may try the bush house next which is a little further away from the R27. Great access to Yzerfontein, West Coast National Park, Langebaan and Darling.
