Enjoyed our stay in the Bush House. The staff are friendly and welcoming. The night was clear and orchestrated by the frog choir. Sitting at the fire pit under the stars was just the nature needed to revive the soul. Can't believe this piece of heaven is only 70km outside Cape Town. Had lunch at the restaurant, and the food was good, as were the prices. The Art was fantastic. As the restaurant was full in next morning due to a large booking, we were given the option to have our breakfast at the Bush House. The food was cold by the time it got there, so I suggest that maybe a better breakfast option, in this case, would have been a continental
breakfast. Everything else was perfect.

This is a wonderful cultural centre, the menu and what they offer is different, interesting and and cultural work the centre is doing also on an educational level is excellent. The only draw back is: why have bus loads of school children have drumming lessons right at the entrance to the restaurant ? There are other areas available. It is noisy, distracting and very unpleasant when one sits outside to enjoy a meal.

!Khwattu is an extraordinary place with an exceptional team. I spent two nights at the Bush Lodge, and all I can say is that the service is very professional, and the guides are very enthusiastic, proud and extremely well prepared.
If you want to spend a weekend away, enjoy some culture and relaxation I can not think of a better place. The numerous affordable activities will keep you busy as well as the well-organised museum.
The place shows impeccable management and organization!
I have been very well looked after, and I really recommend it.

I arrived in the dark at 8pm after meetings elsewhere, and was ushered by Lucas, the security guard, who helped me through the dark, quiet night. Rain was falling and the wind was picking up. But my very comfortable Guest House #1 was more than adequate to house me safely - a large kitchen/lounge, bathroom with shower, and king bed....all looking out on a veranda space that viewed from this hillside the expansive fields of the area! I huge breakfast at the restaurant by a fire with friendly and concerned staff sent me on my way around 11am, all for an affordable overnight accommodation price. I'll always return if I need quiet working space!

Stayed at the bush lodge tented campsite, we had two tents (3 & 4) which faced the bush and were well secluded and private. The tent is spacious with two 3/4 beds per tent, an indoor seating area, outdoor seating area and braai/BBQ area. We stayed in summer and bedding provided was sufficient. I but would definitely recommend taking extra blankets in winter. Bush lodge 3 was in shade and the tent remained cool, the braai/BBQ section was very private and faced away from the other campsite. The private bathroom is a very cool bonus! Hot water is provided by a gas geyser and the shower was delightful.
The kitchenette does not come with any pots, pans or cooking utensils but plates, cutlery, tea cups and wine glasses are provided. A gas hob and kettle are provided with tea/coffee/sugar etc. The gas fridge didn't get very cold so it was difficult to tell if it was working.
Solar lighting is provided in the tent and bathroom but any movement between requires extra lighting. Well behaved dogs are welcome. There is no way to secure your dogs in the site so keep a watch for them wondering off into the bush like ours did. Unfortunately the R27 road is quite close and road noise is noticeable.
At the time of our visit the restaurant was closed due to covid-19.
We enjoyed taking a self guided tour of the 3 museums. Everything is easy to understand and very interactive with displays, videos, audio, etc. The layout is well thought out and very informative. There is lots of information so budget on enough time 30-45 minutes per house.
We went on the tracking tour which included a drive through the reserve pulled by a tractor (the dog came with). The guide was great and explained San hunting techniques and philosophy well. We got very close to springbok, eland and mountain zebra on the tractor but I would have liked to explore the area a bit on foot. Mountain bike trails of varying distances are also available.
Overall a great visit that I would highly recommend!

We stayed one night in the tented camp. Lovely tents in the bush. Shower/toilet block nearby. The owners even delivered pre ordered food to our tents in the evening to fit in with our birding schedule..top marks! Great beer!! Lots of bird activity in the morning and a bonus was a family of African Wild Cats nearby. Great value accommodation.

Our stay here was excellent. The wildlife in terms of birds visiting right next to our cabin and the outdoor shower was superb. The walk to the museum and restaurant was also superb, alongside the ostriches and eland and beautiful landscape.
The museum was very good and so was the tracking tour. All staff were very enthusiastic about the place and it felt good that our money spent was going to uplifting a marginalised group of people. A special mention to the chef who carefully catered to our food allergies, nut and gluten.
The one negative aspect was the one male tourguide who open berated women in front of the whole tour, saying women aren't fit to drive cars or do conservation work because they are stupid. He went on about this for a while to a mixed group of men and women. He did this in front of his female colleague on top of it. She was completely silent for the whole of the tour, and I am not surprised given how abusive her colleague is. I don't think this sort of attitude belongs in a place that is supposed to be uplifting people, when he is very clearly acting to undercut women in the institution. This made me feel unsure about whether this institution was to the benefit of mostly men who decended from San, rather than the women decendents of San as well. I wouldn't want to support such an institution.
I hope this will be addressed as an institution where all staff get training because it is very odd that he feels unashamed to say such things publicly. It gives the feeling that this kind of behaviour is tolerated in the institution. The incident happened on the morning of Sunday the 16th May.
I hope this overall very good project continues and the sexism within the institution is dealt with asap. It is a blight on an otherwise superb project.

We are so happy that you enjoyed your stay and that you had a good experience particularly in the museum and restaurant. We really also are happy that you appreciated our enthusiasm and of course our role in empowering the San in Southern Africa.
It is with shock that we learn of your bad experience with the sexist tour guide. This is something that !Khwa ttu as a team would never support or approve. Gender equality is by default not an issue that our team normally struggles with. After reading your comments we have immediately followed this up and we have engaged in positive discussions. !Khwa ttu is a development organisation where we take time to learn from each other to improve our lives and our organisation. We would love to ask you to please contact us again and to be kind enough to engage with us on this matter, this would help us to understand more and to learn better from our mistakes.
Thank you for your constructive observation and responsible response.

Booked online for 3 adults, so 2 tents. Paid half as system allowed. Then emailed twice to get bank details to pay balance before arrival... i was ignored. Check in, they have 4 tents for me when i booked 2? tried to pay again as i know how much was outstanding, was told to do it the next day.
Got to the tents and they were in a terrible state! old, zips worn out and the inside mesh part coming loose.
The beds had no headboards or foot boards, these beds are not a standard single bed size nor is the bedding standard single bed sized. There were no towels provided as website clearly states.
Staff didn't seem to know what is going on and were not very helpful.
This was my second stay, the first was also a disaster as mid shower the water stopped. I only went back because I was sure the first disaster was a fluke... it wasn't.

The restaurant was worth a visit twice in one week. A gem with fantastic fresh South African food, wine, coffee, friendly staff and a GREAT chef. The food was fresh, fast and and very tasty but best of all Very Well Priced. We had to go back to get more. Cape winter dining next to a fireplace. No one should drive pass this gem. #SomebodyfeedPhil should vist !Khwa ttu to show the world a true South African dining experience.

We had the pleasure of staying at one of the guesthouses - and what a pleasure it was! We arrived on one of the Cape's typical windy, rainy, grey evenings and enjoyed the fire place. The houses are very tasteful and purpusefully equipped. It was just perfect! The entire project is well situated, with places such as Darling around and even Paternoster in reach, apart from being a stone through away from Cape Town. It is absolutely well managed and has the most peaceful atmosphere, which also comes across from staff which are so easy to bond with and share stories. And we were absolutely pleased to hear young people speak Khwedam, one of the Northern Khoisan languages. The San tour guides are committed, very pleasant and fun to engage with. Museum spaces well curated, the nursery filled with indigenous plants. The food interesting, with young chefs trying their ideas. Walking trails easy to walk, meeting nature at its best. We stayed 6 nights - !Khwa ttu appeased our spirits, which were battered during COVID-19 this year, at least making 2020 memorable for a different reason now. We are most grateful and wish !Khwa ttu well!

Hi, what time will your kitchen close tomorrow afternoon? If we are staying in the tented camp will we be able to have dinner at the restaurant and if not, what cooking facilities do you have at the Bush camp?

Hi
The restaurNt closes at 16:00. You are welcome to order food to take along to the tented camp.
I am not sure in which camp you are booked. tented bush lodge has basic cooking facilities while the bush camp has none.
We are looking forward to have you
Is there electricity points in the tents or around the tents?
