We visited both the Isandlwana and Rorke's Drift battlefields where the British suffered one of their most ignominious defeats. It was easy to see how this happened as the British were so exposed and the Zulus knew the lie of the land so much better. There is an excellent Museum detailing all the relevant history

If you visited Isandlwana and Rorkes Drift, then a visit to Fugitive's Drift completes the jigsaw of what happened at Isandlwana

TripAdvisor are mistaken in calling it Fugitive's Drift. There is no actual attraction there but you can be taken there by a guide. The actual attraction the station at Rorke's Drift where another battle was fought not long after the Zulu victory at Isandlwana. All the buildings at the site were built after the battle: the hospital was burnt down... More

Once again international visitors should use a tour guide. If you are into your SA history; the self-guided tour pamphlet works well. A very important site to visit, completing the Anglo Zulu war episode in South Africa. Most enjoyable and well worth a visit.

We arrived at Fugitive's drift on the recommendation of friends to visit "The Battlefields". We didnt know what to expect but were overwhelmed. The tours we experienced of the two battles were inspiring and informative and our guides so knowledgable. The staff at the lodge could not have been more helpful and the meals were excellent. The accommodation was also... More

Well worth a visit after Isandlwana.Unlike Isandlwana you can do it without a guide unless you get a good one who really adds some value.

As part of a South African trip with another couple (one of whom is a history buff with a particular interest in battles) this was the part of the trip I was feeling slightly 'meh' about but happy to go along with. Following on from stops in Capetown, Frenchouk and Knysna (all lovely but could have been anywhere in the... More

Emotive thought provoking and expertly narrated by young Mr Rattray. Relived through his narration one felt like you were there at the time.

Those of you who have seen the film "Zulu" be prepared to learn the real story! Firstly visit Isandlwana and learn from the extremely knowledgeable guides about one of the greatest British defeats in history - defeat - it was a massacre. Visit Rorkes Drift and again be prepared to learn about what actually happened - who the real heroes... More

Amazing Zulu Battle took place here. Narrated by our guide from Fugitives Drift it is simply hard to imagine how the story unfolded. You can read it in books but this does not prepare you for the visual experience. Well worth going.
