- All About DJ SIndependence, Louisiana1 contributionPottery class that is So much fun for the whole familyIf I could give 6 stars I would!! I highly recommend this for everyone in the family! My 12 year old son even enjoyed it. I am now looking for my own pottery wheel. Mike was so nice and made us feel at home. The class was so much fun! Mike was patient and showed us exactly what to do and made sure we finished with a piece we were all proud of. Will definitely do this again when we go back to the mountains. Thank you Fowler’s Clay Works for helping make our vacation a trip to remember!Visited January 2024Traveled with familyWritten January 7, 2024
- Traveling_Sister235 contributionsWonderful time!! Owners were amazing!!My sisters and I wanted to do something fun and different for our sister trip! This was so fun and we got some wonderful and unique pottery to remember our year sister trip!! I would definitely recommend this activity for an amazing time and unique gift to always remember your time in Gatlinburg!!Visited May 2024Traveled with familyWritten May 10, 2024
- Nicole Z1 contributionFun with Mike at Fowler’s!!!Mike was a fantastic instructor! Down to earth, fun, knowledgeable and everyone left with a really cool mug. So many beautiful pieces of pottery in the shop for purchase after class too. I would definitely take another class there.Visited May 2024Traveled with familyWritten May 17, 2024
- RettaEllijay, Georgia9 contributionsDon't Miss This Great PlaceMike makes you feel right at home when you walk in the door. His work is beautiful. It is true quality craftsmanship. His prices are fair, and customer service is great. It is a "must see" every time I'm in Gatlinburg. I always get complimented on the pieces I buy there.Visited May 2024Traveled soloWritten May 21, 2024
- Harley HedgehogSan Francisco Bay Area, California11 contributionsMake A Face Mug ExperienceNow we're the furthest thing from artists but since we were coming out to TN, why not expand our horizons and take this Face Mug class. One of the best decisions we've ever made and a definite highlight of our trip. Our instructor, Karen, helped us each craft a face mug, explaining each step and which tools (gotta use the right tool for the job) to use to create our masterpiece. A recommended class whether you have artistic ability, or not. You won't be disappointed. Mike (the owner) has a Make a Mug Experience class where you craft a mug. If we return to the area, we will definitely sign up. Note that you won't take home your Face Mug the same day, as the mug still needs to be glazed. I believe the timeline for receipt is approximately 12 weeks after your class. Take pictures before you leave the class. Regarding items in the shop, items are varied and unique and are great gifts, even to yourself. We should know, since we purchased quite a bit for family and friends and colleagues. I believe you can commission Fowler's Clay Works to create individual and custom items, but please check with Fowler.Visited May 2024Traveled with familyWritten June 10, 2024
- GBCBDNew York City, New York4 contributionsGreat pottery classWe were a group of 8 ranging in age from 20 to 70. Mike Fowler himself was our instructor. He really seemed to enjoy sharing his knowledge and encouraged us at each step. All our mugs turned out differently but beatifully. Everyone had a blast! Highly recommend taking a class! If that's not your thing, there is gorgeous pottery for sale in the shop. What are you waiting for?? Go to Fowler's Clay Works!!Visited June 2024Traveled with familyWritten June 12, 2024
- Jenna B4 contributionsGo book now! AwesomeExperienceMike Fowler at Fowler’s clay works deserves more than 5 stars! We did the “make a mug class” on 6-21-24. The shop was so cute, the staff were so nice. The class was enlightening, educational and so so fun! Our family made mugs and we cannot wait to receive them! Mike was patient with our son, Patient with us adults and made the day great! Mr. Fowler is very talented. His work is impeccable, he also does corporate gift orders at phenomenal pricing and this guy even has a podcast, so book the class and tune in! We will be back!Visited June 2024Traveled with familyWritten June 22, 2024

As promised we each, of varying levels of experience, were able to create a custom piece. Mike Fowler is a patient, kind, and good humored teacher. We very much enjoyed the experience and the beautiful handmade items in their shop.Visited June 2024Traveled with familyWritten July 27, 2024

I've been coming to this area for many years yet somehow never explored the arts community. Just before my trip I started looking for new experiences. I've always wanted to try making pottery and when I discovered Fowler's, I immediately booked a class through their online booking (very easy). Yesterday I took the class and absolutely had the best time. Rachel, our instructor was AWESOME, couldn't ask for a better teacher. I'm traveling alone but there were three other ladies in the class that were traveling together and were super friendly and fun. It was informative, hands on and an overall wonderful class. Met Mike Fowler as well as the ladies in their lovely shop and everyone was so welcoming. I will plan to come back for another class each year and recommend this experience 100%.

This location gives pottery making lessons. Mike F. is very much an expert and extremely knowledgeable of potters and the pottery process. He talked to us for 30 minutes about various aspects of pottery. Very very cool. My wife bought two pieces. Will return.

This was the one thing on our trip I was looking forward to doing and it did not disappoint. The pottery class started on time, everything was prepped before we arrived, appropriate covid precautions were in place (dividers, sanitizers, distancing between stations etc). Our instructor was friendly but also very patient and very encouraging, with a great sense of humor. She makes you feel proud of your work however perfectly imperfect it is lol. Our family had a great time bonding and making memories. We can’t wait to see our work in 12 weeks!

Initially stopped to see what was available, and given a card in case I wanted to order online. Went back just two days later because I could not stop thinking about a particular piece. Got a precious mug with a heart and really love that it's safe for the microwave and dishwasher. Highly recommend supporting local makers and shopping directly from them!

My husband and I decided to take the pottery class while we were staying in Gatlinburg. As soon as we walked in we were treated by nice friendly smiles. We were able to talk to everybody and hold lovely conversations while we waited for our pottery class to start. Our pottery class teacher, Rachel, was amazing and helped guide us in making our own bowls. Once we were done with our class we purchased some mugs from the shop. I then found out that have an online store that they will ship right to your door! Me and my husband will always take a pottery class from them every time we visit Gatlinburg now and we will definitely be ordering pottery from them in the future!

As a novice pottery collector I flagged Fowler's Clay Works as a must stop visit on our trip to Gatlinburg and we were not disappointed!
Although this is a small gallery & studio it has plenty of gorgeous, functional pieces that show the true talent of the artists.
Not only was the work exceptional the owner was very nice. He described his work in detail, explained where the clay comes from and even gave a small piece to our kids. I'm very glad to have found this shop and look forward to returning sometime in the future.

Quaint little shop that has beautiful pottery for purchase and you can pre-schedule a pottery making session. We were very lucky to get a same day open spot and the experience was great. The teacher explains step by step and then helps you make your own cup or bowl. Masks and a divider made it a safe and enjoyable experience. Highly recommend

Stopped here on our last day in Gatlinburg when I went with my Mother. I wanted to check out some of the craft shops while we stayed nearby. Looking in here, you can see the love and effort put into the work. Beautiful coloring in the pieces, an amazing eye to detail, sets with color themes... I wanted a butter tray or sugar pot of a certain color theme, but they had neither. I still was in awe at how beautiful the stuff was! A must-see, even if you're curious. There may very well be a temptation to buy!

I took a two hour pottery class making a coffee mug. Sommer excelled in her instructional knowledge
and the staff was very friendly. If you’re in the area I highly recommend coming in and taking a look at their amazing assortment of craftsmanship pieces and taking a course. You’ll be glad you did. 😊

We were hoping to fit this in during our spring break trip and the owner came through and accommodated our group of 5 all in the same class. I suggest emailing for larger groups as I was unable to schedule all 5 online together. The instructor was a great teacher, very patient and supported us even when we did something incorrectly. We made 2 mugs, 2 bowls and a vase. The class took about an hour and 45 mins. Everyone enjoyed it even my 11 year old son!

We are coming up next week, do we need to make a reservation to make a mug? How much per person?
Written January 3, 2019
We made a reservation online. That would probably be the best thing to do. The mug class is $55 per person and that includes the class, coloring, and shipping the mug to your home. There is a pot class that is $35 a person. It has all of this information on the site, which is just the name of the company. It won’t let me post the hyperlink on here. If you don’t want to register online, I would call 865-412-1003 to reserve a spot because the each class has a limited size! Hope that helps!

We had a great time making mugs on our last visit to Gatlinburg! We are heading back down in late April and would like to take another class. Can you tell me the days/times you hold classes and if there is something other than a mug we can make? Thank you!
Written March 25, 2018
at the moment we only offer the mug class, we are looking into adding other options as we grow! you can always make a different mug shape, looking forward to seeing everyone again

Hi, we will be visiting Gatlinburg 9/1 thru 9/5 and would like to take one of your Pottery classes.
There would be 2 perhaps 4 with my daughter and her husband. Do we need to contact you in advance for a reservation?
Tks.

Hi:
You need to contact Fowler's directly. I don't work for them. I was just a student in their class. You will really enjoy the class. It's a ton of fun and the staff is so easy to work with.
Have fun.
