About
The Moonshine Mountain Coaster, formerly known as Gatlinburg Mountain Coaster, is under new ownership and management since late 2021. The coaster offers beautiful scenery in the Smoky Mountains and a thrilling ride from top to bottom. Each rider is in control of the speed of their own sled and can go as fast as 30mph! The Moonshine Mountain Coaster is a family-friendly attraction for all ages and starts with kids as young as 3 years old. Definitely don't miss out on our night rides! At sunset, our incredible light show turns on and lights up almost the entire mountain in amazing colors!

Thrilling coaster and high speeds for an alpine coaster, if you could only choose one alpine coaster in the area I would recommend this one. The coaster is great how you go through the woods. Pricing for this type of attraction is average being about $15. Other than that great ride and is definitely worth your time.

We bought the hour pass for $30 per person. Use the coupon from one of the many coupon books that are out in Gatlinburg and they gave us a 10% discount on the price. Arrived at 2 just before 8 in the evening the place was absolutely empty and got in about nine runs in the hour.

The course itself is great A few little dips at the top get you really going that one great big 360 turn couple of huge drops. They say that you can peek out between 35 and 40 miles an call your own speed by using handles on the sides of the cart.

I would highly recommend going when it's not busy and buying me our pass because it's well worth your money.

Maybe it isn’t the smartest thing to do with a chronic back problem, it I love these coasters. The Gatlinburg Mountain Coaster is the most recent one I’ve ridden, and I must say it is easily the smoothest ride of any of them that I’ve tried thus far!

The track is constructed in such away that you never feel a jolt, bump, or that annoying grab-and jerk motion when being pulled up on the average mountain coaster.

While it may not be the longest track in town, it is definitely the smoothest!

I was so excited for this experience because of the great reviews I had seen prior to our trip but I was extremely disappointed when we got there. You could tell when walking up to the building that things were not well taken care of. The bathrooms were out of order so there were men peeing behind the bushes in the parking lot. The staff were very unfriendly and seemed just generally annoyed that they had customers coming through the lines. The coaster it self was a huge disappointment. The sleds felt a bit unsafe and you could tell that they are not well cared for. We waited in like for about 25 minutes and the ride lasted maybe 3 minutes total? When getting off the ride, many people were falling because the wood was wet and there was not much of anything down for traction. Someone in our party fell and no one that was working there offered to help her up or help her off the slippery wood.

We were very fortunate to have discovered a different coast called the Rocky Top Mountain Coaster and let me tell you, this was a much better experience. Everything was new, the staff was AMAZING and the ride itself lasted for a lot longer than the 3 minutes at the Gatlinburg coaster. If you are looking at coasters for your trip, do not waste your time with the Gatlinburg Mountain Coaster, it is not worth your time or money. Take the trip over to Smoky Top and you will not regret it!

Hello and thank you for your feedback, the truth is important to us. We are very sorry to read about your bad experience! But we are excited to let you know the coaster is now under new ownership and new management as of November 2021. We are now Moonshine Mountain Coaster! The new owners have spent almost two million dollars on upgrades and improvements to the track and facilities. We now have the newest, most advanced tracking, technology, sleds, lighting, and safety equipment available. We have also hired new staff that care about our customers and the experience they have here. During your next visit to Gatlinburg, we invite you to please stop by, give us a chance and see for yourself! If for some reason you are not satisfied, please let us know right away so we can make it right. Thank you! - Moonshine Mountain Coaster Management

This was our first time on a mountain coaster. So I will say I dont have a lot of things to compare it to. But I did find it quiet pricey for the short ride. For my 3 year old, husband and I it was $40 for one ride. My thrill seeking daughter loved it and begged to do it again. So they told us it was an additional $8 per person. I thought that was a little crazy considering she was riding in the same cart as one of us and not in her own. I decided to sit the next round out while my husband took her because of the price. It was also quiet annoying that there wasnt a restroom available to use after spending $56 for 2 short rides. I also have a serious pet peeves about cell phones. After coming down the mountain a male attendant greeted us to push us the rest of the way. But the entire time he had his cellphone in his face and never looked up and was immersed in whatever he was looking at...

We visited at 2pm on a Monday. The place was empty and we purchased the hour pass for $30. We rode 7 times and could have done a couple more if we wanted. I recommend riding more than once -- the first time you're nervous and figuring out the brakes and the second time it's much more fun. The ride up the mountain is very relaxing and the ride down is exhilarating! The coaster is very smooth and fast. If you don't like roller coasters, this attraction isn't for you.

My daughter and I went first thing in the morning. Which I recommend because it gets crowded. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The facility was clean and well maintain. Safety was a top priority to the staff. The coaster was great and we loved the glider. Very family friendly. My only complaint is the rides seemed very short for the price we paid. Three rides pass was over $70 and only latest less than 3 minutes. But my daughter and I had a blast and got to experience something new together. That priceless.

We rode both the coaster and the hang/zipline gliders. Overall we liked the coasters the best. I would recommend purchasing a few rides on the coaster. Two rides went by quickly. I did purchase tickets online and they didn't offer an option for more than a couple rides on the coaster, but in person at the ticket counter there were more choices of packages to buy. I wish i would have know this, since we purchased the 2 coaster and 1 hang glider ride.

The coaster is awesome. The seats are clean and comfortable. You go up nice and slow and can check out the scenery (nothing special to see. It was mostly wooded area, but we were there in Fall so the trees were nice to look at.) I saw for some of the holidays, they put lights up and do night rides! When you get to the top its a great ride down. The only reason this place didn't get 5 stars is because of the long wait. This particular place doesn't allow you to buy ahead and make a reservation. I also wish there was some clear marker for people on a (minimum speed except in an emergency.) I had about a min 60 second AMAZING ride before I caught up with the woman that was in font of me (would be a nonissue if you are going at least med. speed.) I had to ride the breaks the entire rest of the way down to avoid running into her. Turns the mountain coaster into a mountain, moving seat. BUT this is the companies fault. and I saw many people who came down fast the whole way with no issues.

I put 1 star because there's no options for a less rating than this. The people that works at this place are horrible. They don't care about anything here.I fall to the floor on the sideway at the side of the coaster after getting off the coaster because it was freaking slippery, the floor was wet as the river here. When I fall none of these incompetent workers there cares about me or my wife , yeah she fall at the same time ,with me, we both Fall..Itold the lady inside and she was so apathic.
