We got here on a Sunday when the Visitor Center was closed, but we were able to pick up a couple of brochures and drive through the Bird Sanctuary. There weren't as many birds as I had hoped for although we did see several white...More

The staff at the visitor's center was helpful. However, it is about a 12 mile drive from the visitor's center to the refuge. With any wildlife refuge, visitor's are at the mercy of the wildlife and unfortunately I didn't see much. Much of the refuge...More

It is likely that you'll be the only car on the wildlife drive. The route is long (circa 12 miles) so allow plenty of time. This is primarily a driving route and you may find insects a problem if you leave the car for very...More

Still a lot of birds but in limited numbers. We drove through the refuge starting around 8am. Birds are more visible and active. This time of year the refuge is pretty dry so most of the birds are water fowl. Saw White Pelicans, Stilts, Cinnamon...More

Went later in the day as suggested by the Bear River website. This was a mistake as the visitor center was closed and we could not get any information about the best places to go. However we decided to go it on our own and...More

I didn’t know this was here, but I saw the signs and stopped at the Visitors Center. Very nice exhibits and a great 20 minute movie. I drove around the area and it was very interesting and enjoyable. I would have driven the auto tour,...More

This is a birders paradise. The visitors center is great and very educational and has a short nature walk around some marshes. The 12 mile auto-loop is fantastic. The staff is friendly and helpful. We went two times during our stay and ended up spending...More

The answer is yes to all of your questions. Go before five for the visitors center. Bring a large telephoto lens for photography. Binoculars id you are just viewing. Most wildlife doesn't come close.
