Antelope Canyon is closed to hiking because of Covid. Lucky for us, we could kayak into the canyon from Lake Powell.
We went with a group of kayaks led by our guide, Luke. There were about 5 or 6 other kayaks in our group. Most of these were double kayaks.
The Kayak Lake Powell business provided the kayaks, life jacket, and a bottle of water. I have kayaked in many places including Hawaii, off the coast of Massachusetts, rivers, and the Great Lakes of Michigan.
This trip was a fairly easy trip into the canyon. The water was deep and I hoped we would not flip over our kayak as others in our group did. If you flip, the canyon walls come down to the water and there is no beach to land on and reseat the kayak. You must be able to climb back into the kayak from the water.
On the day we went, the weather was beautiful and the water was smooth. There were many other kayaks traveling on the water with us. This is a popular thing to do in the area. We enjoyed our trip and now that we know what to do we would just rent kayaks and paddle on our own.
If you want to kayak in this location, I would suggest you make a reservation for either the tour or the kayaks. It looked like everything was sold out on this day even
during the pandemic.

Keegan was truly the best tour guide we could of asked for. He was kind, fun and knowledgeable on all things Arizona, which was very impressive considering he was new to the area. He showed us all the best spots on the lake, showed us were to safely cliff jump and gave us a little bit of education on the Navajo nation. If you’re going to go out on lake Powell for the first time, I highly recommend using this company and requesting Keegan. Thanks again!

My mom, aunt, and I did the breakfast tour, which includes kayaking on Lake Powell into lower Antelope Canyon where the trip becomes a hike. Because it was early in the season, we were accompanied not only by our guide, Austin, but four guides-in-training as well. Austin did an excellent job of providing instruction to them while also sharing facts about the canyon with us. We are experienced kayakers, though the paddle is definitely accessible to an enthusiastic beginner! Once we arrived at the canyon we were permitted to hike back and explore while breakfast was prepared. We were told we would be getting breakfast burritos, but we figured that these would be pre-made prior to our departure. Nope, they cook everything for you fresh right in the canyon! My mom and I have previously toured the upper Antelope Canyon, but we preferred this trip which was less of a photo op and more of an immersive adventure tour (there are still plenty of photos to be had though, trust me). All in all we enjoyed the beautiful scenery, physical activity, and the food...but as with any guided tour it was the guides who really ensured that it was an unforgettable experience. 5/5 to Austin and the rest of the crew, who are all helpful, experienced, eager, and happy to be there. If you decide to join them for a tour this season you will not be disappointed!

I would recommend you book another company if you want to hire a kayak on Lake Powell. We turned up early on the day of our booking and was told that it had been cancelled due to bad weather. Fair enough but a telephone call/email would have been appreciated so we would not have had a wasted journey.
Dispite numerous emails I am still waiting on my refund (booking was for 18/6/22) and have had to refer this now to my credit card company to chase.
Please note as well that this is a drive from Lake Powell so we would have had to put the kayak onto the roof of our hire car ourselves, something I did not realise at the time.

I highly recommend using a different company to book kayaking on lake Powell. First off, they cancelled our booking when we asked for them to modify it. The communication was extremely unorganized. After you drive to the office, you have to go to lake Powell where there wasn’t anyone there to assist you. Beware you have to carry your kayaks down yourself about fifty feet hill. We were extremely unimpressed by this company. We met other companies down there who were assisting their customers too. Do not rent with this company.

We were left stranded for 2.5 hours because the 8:30 am tour guide never turned up.
As per confirmation email we were supposed to reach 15 mins before which we did.
After 45 mins and many calls we were told we were supposed to arrive 30 mins early and missed the tour. Their email changes through the year but now it was 30 mins and it was all our fault.
we paid 500$ for 4 people and were told they will give us a future credit.
Really , saying that to a visitor in the city is ridiculous!!!.
we got a favor to go with the 10:30 tour and that guide was clearly not interested in additions to his trip of 2 other people. We were kayaking on our own most of the time.
Anyway this company doesn’t care about customers because no repeat customers in their business.
We regret using them.

We recently visited lake Powell for the first time and wanted to explore Antelope Canyon and surrounding parts via kayak. Myra was super helpful and gave us great recommendations complete with maps and descriptions. We felt supported and safe. The equipment was reliable and easy to use. Furthermore, despite visiting during the pandemic, Kayak Lake Powell felt professional, exercised appropriate safety precautions/cleaning, etc. and made us feel comfortable and safe. Thanks so much!

Beware:
If you want to kayak and not carry your kayak, then this rental company is not for you!! You will have to carry your own kayak - to quote their staff "approximately one half of a football field to and from the water." Not until you arrive at the lake- do you find out that it all involves a large hill with varying sizes of loose rocks and sand. The grade to that hill is conservatively 60 degrees. Going up that hill in 100 degree- direct sunlight is bad enough. It is nearly impossible with a kayak, especially after paddling and hiking for hours. Staff is only present to monitor whether or not you are dragging, rather than carrying their equipment. Good luck to those who dare.... be certain to sign their waivers in case you have a heart attack or fall!! FYI: You will be charged double if you leave their equipment at the bottom of the hill.

Bret our tour guide was so very patient. He had to wait on 4 guys before we even left. Then when we got to lake Mead the same guys had no idea how to kayak or even swim. We all helped there were 10 of us plus the 4 guys and we all survived plus learned how to be kind. It got very windy in the afternoon and paddling became very challenging yet we all surpassed the challenge. The Colorado River and area was beautiful! Thanks Bret!!!!!

The views during kayaking and hiking are simply breathtaking. So, so beautiful. Toward the end of the hike you get to experience some of the narrower slot canyons and we got amazing pictures. We all loved the scenery. Our guide Elijah showed us additional information on his phone about the canyon and a time lapse of Lake Powell water level. He was very friendly and was able to share history of the canyon.
The website and the confirmation email state "appropriate for all fitness levels". This was true on the way out while the water was relatively calm. We could stop for water breaks and take pictures from the kayaks. However, the wind picked up dramatically on our way back and it was a struggle to the point of near exhaustion to fight against the wind and choppy water. Those conditions were not appropriate for my 14 year old or for anyone not in strong physical shape. I was glad that the company had fitted us each with life jackets. Once the wind came on, several of our party capsized in very cold water and were rescued by another company's motor boat.
My advice before booking is to ask each company if they have a motorized boat in the area to tow (and check on) struggling tour members in the event that the wind does get aggressive. Ask specifically about wind monitoring and wind policy.

Ciao..io e la mia ragazza abbiamo prenotato per domani il kayak e L escursione all antelope kanyon. Non sappiamo nuotare. C’è una guida che ci segue? Possiamo stare tranquilli?

If you rent kayaks for a self guided tour, can you still hike Antelope Canyon, or does the hike of Antelope Canyon require a guide?

There are no regulations requiring a guide for hiking the canyon.

Hello! Thank you for your interest in Kayak Lake Powell. We do have an age requirement of 7 and above. During our summer months June-Aug the water temperature is a warm 75-80 degrees Fahrenheit. During the colder months we do recommend staying out of the water due to the cold temps. You are welcome to use a wet suit if you have any.

Call the place. They are really helpful.
Do you have to haul the kayaks yourself? I'll just have a rental car.

how calm are the waters for the antelope canyon kayak tour? Is it safe enough to bring a camera backpack and DSLR?

The lake can be choppy. Inside the canyon is calm. My seat got wet, but I never felt like I was going to fall in. I had my phone and other items in a dry bag I brought. If I was paddling in a two-seater, I would have felt fine with a camera around my neck.

Doing this tour along with the Lower antelope canyon tour the first week of April. Can anyone give suggestions on what is best to wear for the kayaking portion of the tour? how long does it take to drive from the lower antelope canyon portion of the tour to the kayaking check in portion? Thanks for any help. First time kayaking so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :)))))

You will get wet especially on your lower legs and feet. We wore long pants and sneakers. We took off our shoes and had to tie them to the kayak and rolled up our pants above the knee. Most people in our group wore shorts and flip flops. Make sure your seat is comfortable before you get into the water. It's too hard to adjust it once you're in the water.I think it was only about a fifteen minute trip or less from the lower antelope canyon to the kayak office.

Antelope canyon is where we’d like to go.

We went in September and booked a couple of months ahead. Others in the group booked the day before. We started at the Kayak Lake Powell office in Page, Arizona and then drove to the marina. The kayaking and hiking tour lasted 5-6 hours and we would highly recommend that. Check with them on the July cost. If you're in the area for a while, would also suggest you go to Kanab, Utah and do the Coyote Buttes/White Pocket tour. You definitely need a guide for that!

I would book as soon as possible, going with this group for the kayak trip… They are a good group, with great guides... if you are doing antelope Canyon, the more scenic is the lower antelope Canyon.I can also give you the name of an amazing Mexican restaurant if you like it?
