About Cross Sound Express Whale Watching
To begin with...I do not delete, hide or edit ANY reviews on this page. That being said...our vessel is 50’ long with seating for 28 passengers and an open back deck with a rain awning for viewing and photography of the whales and wildlife. We depart from the Gustavus City dock which is approximately 9 miles from Glacier Bay Lodge and Glacier Bay. From there we generally take the 7.2 mile crossing in Icy Strait to an area by Chichigof Island known as Point Adolphus. The crossing takes about 35 minutes and quite often we will check out Sea Otters on the way over. Once we get to PA (Point Adolphus) we position ourselves near the whales and shut off the engines so we can drift with them and we place our Hydrophone in the water to hear their sounds over our speaker system. Although we always see whales (up close) we usually also see many Stellar Sea Lions, Bald Eagles and sometimes the occasional Alaska Brown Bear strolling the shores of Chichigof Island. During the course of the tour we offer information about the area, the whales, and the other wildlife we encounter. On the average we see Orca (Killer Whales) about a dozen times a season.

I traveled in July 2016 to Alsaka (Sorry, I don't have a chace to review anything via Tripadvisor before. But I did reviewed it online via others website already.) I stayed for 7 days and took the whale watching tour from Gustavus. The boat departed...More

We just got back from Seattle and the highlight of our trip was on the Puget Sound Express to go whale watching. The boat was so comfortable and fast. The director of the cruise gave constant information on whales and their habitat. It was all...More

Our trip on the “Taz” was beyond words! We consistently saw whales and other wildlife! We even experienced humpback whales lunge feeding! The crew was kind, considerate and extremely helpful! Highly recommended! Truly a once in a lifetime experience!

Tod and Mik did a great job showing us a fantastic time! We saw seals, brown bears, porpoise, and lots of humpbacks! I cannot say enough good about this tour.

Thanks to Todd we had a great morning viewing whales. We were lucky to see the humpbacks bubble feeding plus 2 orca whales. Todd’s very knowledgeable and respectful of the whales. Snacks and drinks included. A definite must do activity. The photos speak for themselves!

We booked Cross Sound Express Whale Watching through the Country Inn of Gustavus. We were prepared for sightings of whales, but Todd and Mikela delivered so much more. First, the boat is old but very well built and maintained. I have sailed Lake Michigan and...More

Todd and Michela were great, very hospitable, multiple snacks and hot drinks. Comfy boat even for this seasick-prone land lover. Todd tried his best to find whales, and we did see a bit of a few of them. That was exciting. But they explained that...More

This is the real deal. An experienced, knowledgeable captain with a great deckhand, a great boat and a very respectable approach. Wildlife wellbeing comes first. This is not a touristy boat that disturbs the wildlife. We just sat there with 3 whales around us, no...More

I was delighted to be able to go out on the Taz yesterday and the day before and all I can say is incredible. I would go every day if I could. Tod and Mic definitely "know things" about whales. It is great that they...More

Consider to take a whale watching tour from Juneau instead.
